SAC/MEM rumor?

Post#1 » by hptmatthew » Wed Jan 14, 2009 4:33 pm

http://www.thememphisedge.com/2009/01/1 ... %E2%80%A6/

From the Griz' beat writer. Nebulous language, and no specific players mentioned, but he's been told to "keep an eye" on Sacramento as a potential Griz trade partner.

What would you cats give for Conley and a future pick?

Those are the two main pieces in play, but when you suck as badly as we do, no one (except OJ and possibly Marc "the real Gasol brother" Gasol) is untouchable.

Lock/merge/etc. if needed, but thought you all would want to know it was mentioned anyway.

Obviously you didn't watch the Kings play last night

I've been thinking about a way to get Conley into Sacramento...I think he would be perfect for the Kings, and allow them to pick a big man with their top 3 pick (instead of Jennings). The thing is...what would the Griz want for him?

I dunno, what do the King's have that the Grizz would want, that we would be willing to give?

Martin and Hawes I would think are completely off the table. I doubt Petrie will be trading Thompson anytime soon, and our pick is going no where.

So,
Garcia, Salmons, Miller, Beno, Sheldon, Donte, Douby
Why would Grizz want any of those?

I would love to have Conley. Beno just isn"t working out so yeah, I would make a deal for him and a pick.

I'm not so quick to jump on the Michael Conley bandwagon. Although the last time we traded with the Grizz and got a PG it went well, I don't think Conley's proven a thing and this is a gamble.

Udrih
for
Conley/Filler

That works for me.

Why on earth would the Grizz want Beno?

Or even Salmons.

fan-wise, most of us would take Salmons in a heartbeat. Size at the 2 to put next to Mayo, or a GREAT first guard off the bench. We've got the cap, but it remains to be seen whether they're willing to use it at all, or on Salmons.

Would you do Salmons for Conley + filler?

Salmons isn't really any burden on the cap, since his contract is so small (MLE), so Memphis would still be able to sign a big name FA (Boozer/Millsap/Sessions/etc)

So, if Memphis did trade for Salmons, would you guys play Mayo/Salmons/Gay?

I dunno.

But for the King's, it would mean, we can easily take the BPA come draft day without any concerns of "needing a player at a specific position." Basically, just, whoever Petrie likes the most.

What about Salmons and Beno for Rudy Gay and Marco Jaric? I'd love to have Rudy Gay on the Kings. Is this even close?

No.

Gay has more value than anyone on the King's except for Martin.

True, but I wouldn't trade Hawes for Gay.

I doubt the KINGS and GRIZZ are going to trade but i would trade eithe BENO or SALMONS straight up for CONLEY !

I see Conley as no better than Beno right now but Conley has more upside to be really great !
I see Salmons as better than Conley but it is appearant the Kings are trying to trade Salmons pretty hard so they way i see it is Conleys upside and cheap contract is worth alot more than expirings for Salmons easily !

Again i doubt we trade with the Grizz but if this is remotley true i say get it done fast if it is Conley for either Beno or John ......

I'm pretty sure it would be Salmons. Salmons for Conley straight up??? I'd bet anything the Kings would be interested in Warrick, he fits the bill of Kings killer that eventually played for the Kings to perfection.

Then again the Grizz also have the space to absorb more salary, how about:

John Salmons and Brad Miller

for

Greg Buckner, Steve Francis, Hakim Warrick, and an unprotected 1st rounder in '09

Look, the first thing you have to get out of your head is that the Grizzlies would ever take Udrih. Memphis, under no circumstance I can think of would take on a long and costly contract. They are looking to cutting salaries not adding ones, especially at Beno's talent level.

I do like the Conley for Salmons idea from the Grizzlies point of view but first there needs to be an evaluation of OJ Mayo playing the point for them, which hasn't happened so far. But if Mayo started playing pointguard like he did in college then inserting Salmons at shooting guard between Mayo and Gay would work.

Tha salary difference doesn't matter since Memphis is under the cap by alot.

I was high on Conley around draft night but he didn't really live up to expectations though. That being said, I would still trade anyone for Conley (well excluding Martin, Hawes and Thompson). Conley still has a good deal of potential left IMO.

That Picard picture would be appropriate right now. :D

Francis is on the verge of being bought out, Buckner will be kept due to his partially guaranteed contract, you're definitely not getting our pick unprotected, but Warrick you can have. From your team's end, we won't take Miller's contract.

Which could be a reason the Grizz would be interested in Salmons. He has some pretty decent PG skills.

I can see something around Warrick, but there'd most likely have to be some sweet filler. I don't like the idea of picking up Conley, there are plenty of PG's available in this draft better than him, and I don't think he's a right fit for this team even if we don't take one of them. Outside of Gay and Mayo the Grizz don't have much in terms of valuable young talent that the Kings could use moving forward so I think it's probably unlikely a deal is struck between the two teams unless the Grizz are trying to load up on vets. If not then there is no reason for the Kings and Grizzlies to trade pieces since they are heading the same direction.

I dunno why you wouldn't want Conley.

With Conley it puts us at
Conley/Martin/Greene/Thompson/Hawes
which means this year in the draft, we can solely draft on BPA.
Meaning, we could go PG (Rubio, Holiday, Jennings) SG (Harden, DeRozen) SF (Aminu, James, Clark) PF (Griffin, Hill, Monroe) C (Thabeet)
It gives us plenty of options.
