Utah Jazz Trade Proposal

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Wed Jan 14, 2009 8:02 am

Would you trade:

Darrell Arthur & Your unprotected 1st Round Pick

for

Paul Milsap: who as a starter is averaging 19/12

?

It would be unwise to trade for Milsap given his contract status. We can make a bid for him in the off season that is unlikely to be matched if Boozer does not opt out. Although Boozer has said he plans on opting out, given his injury situation and the state of the economy it may be wise to show he is healthy by playing next season with the Jazz and having Free Agency in 2010 where more larger markets will have CAP space and will look to sign (2) pieces of Superstar status long term. There is too much uncertainty to sign him long term this off season, he is just too much of a gamble to sign for 15 million a year in this economy. We (the Grizz) should wait until the off season and make a move for Milsap. On this board after getting lucky and landing Blake Griffin, Paul Milsap is at the top of our wish list.

For an unprotected pick I wouldn't consider it, for the reasons dark mentioned.

you basiclly want a non playoff team to rent Paul Milsap for 3 month for top 5 pick and Darrel Arthur

Millsap is not worth an unprotected pick. I'd rather the Grizzlies just try and outbid Utah if that's the case.

I agree with the above comments, especially the part about Milsap being a 3 month rental. What guarantees are there that he wouldn't be signed by OKC? This is a terrible trade idea for Memphis.

And like I've said in another topic, I have reservations when a player suddenly has a career season when he knows he's going to be an unrestricted free agent.

Is Milsap going to be that much more valueable to the Grizzlies than a Varejao and Powe would? Varejao offers more than his stats show and when averaged over 48 minutes(a stat I have to admit has to judged with some caution) Powe has very good numbers. And both could come cheaper than Milsap.

Plus since we don't know where Memphis is drafting it is possible they could end up in a position to draft Griffin, Hill, Monroe, or Patterson, all of which will be cheaper than a re-signed Milsap, and could turn out just as good.

So this is one trade proposal that's easy to decline.

Mind you I should have added that Kyle Korver would be a good fit for the Grizzlies off the bench.

Me personally, Dejuan Blair has become my second favorite in the draft behind Griffin. If we finish outside the top three, I wouldn't mind seeing us move down some to get Blair. I think he could do everything Millsap is doing and be much cheaper at the same time.

Heh, if Pitt and Blair continue to play at their current level, moving "down" to get Blair may not be an option.

For Millsap? This is just stupid talk, no correction, this is Deron Williams talk here.

Paul Millsap would be a restricted free-agent, so you would not lose him. But, as a Jazz fan, I would not be happy if this trade happened.

Can you seriously write that down, then look at it, and consider it a fair offer?

Arthur should have been a lottery pick so you're asking for essentially 2 lottery picks for Milsap.
