We are forgetting how young team besides big 3 we have!

Post#1 » by klemen4 » Thu Jan 15, 2009 6:34 pm

We really do:

Lets look our young players position wise, taking into account how old will they be this year:

PG Rondo(23) / Pruitt(23)
SG Giddens(24)
SF Walker(22)
PF Powe(25) / Davis (23)
C Perkins(25) / Obryant(23)

We have 8 players 22 to 25 years.

Depth chart:

PG Rondo(23) / Pruitt(23)
SG R. Allen / House / Giddens(24)
SF Pierce / Walker(22)
PF Garnett / Powe(25) / Davis (23)
C Perkins / Obryant(23)

Trade availability:
Scal, T. Allen, Casell

Im ready to give up on T. Allen with Walker younger with much more upside. Also looking depth wise if a throw in is needed Giddens and Davis can go.

I would really want to keep Pruit, Walker and Obryant.

I don't really understand why people are ready to throw TA completely under the bus at this point for an unproven rookie in Walker (who I actually like a lot). The second unit doesn't need to get any younger and unless TA is traded for a player who's an upgrade (potentially Joe Smith) I see him settling right back into his role as backup wing player. If the C's are able to better integrate Pruitt while phasing House out of any PG duties I think that would help TA tremendously. TA has always played worse when having to worry about handling the ball, if that pressure is removed from his shoulders he will play much more consistently.

However, I do understand that TA has more value (than most players on the bench) + a decent cap hold so he is an option for trade. But you can't just trade him for peanuts because right now he's option number 2 to defend Lebron.

Because people have been watching him play for the last 4+ years and are tired of his boneheaded play. This type of play is going to be a disaster in the playoffs that's why Doc didn't play him last year in the playoffs. You could make a strong arguement that TA best year was his first year and he has been going downhill ever since.

But who do the Celtics have that they can put on the floor to guard the bigtime perimeter players aside from Pierce. This team could potentially face Joe Johnson, Lebron and Kobe in the playoffs... do people really think that trotting out a rookie who doesn't even know the system is going to do a better job in the playoffs against these guys than Tony Allen? I mean if the C's come up with a veteran replacement on the wing who can play respectable defense than sure, no biggie, use Walker in short spurts and I'm sure he'd be fine on the defensive end and scrapping on the offensive end. But Walker as your #3 wing player? You've got to be kidding.

Perkins is only 24 too.

I can't believe Tony Allen just turned 27. He still seems young to me...but he's like what? 4 years younger then Pierce? Not that big of a gap...

The problem is Lebron yes, and Tony hasnt got the height nor pounds to defend him...

...Im already seeing that lebrons fake on 3 pt play when players defend him upfront with hands, he waits, rises up hitting defenders hand and has a clear shot....ggrr

humblebum,

You are exactly right. They don't have anyone experienced other than TA for the backup 2-3 for defensive purposes. The Celtics were really hopeful that TA could be a big defensive asset for them off the bench. If you look at the quotes lately from Doc & Tom Thib. they are disappointed in TA's defense this year. This is a big concern if TA stays with the Celtics or not. That's why I think Wyc mentioned a wing (probably defensive) and a big man as things he would like to add.

The Celtics were hopeful that TA could replace Posey defensively and it hasn't happened.

I always thought Bill Walker was younger than that. I'm probably wrong, but I thought he was at K State for two years, but was too young for his class or something like that, so he was still a freshman entering the 2008 draft.
