Carney's minutes next year

Post#1 » by Frozen316 » Fri Jan 16, 2009 5:47 am

How do you propose we get Carney some minutes next year if we keep all our players from this year and add a pg/sg?

There's no guarantee that we'll even have Carney next season. We didn't give him an extension, so he'll be an unrestricted free agent next year. We told him he'd have to play for a contract, and he said he was fine with that, and it looks like he's showing what he can do.

With Brewer back as well, resigning Hot Rod doesnt look good, especially if we add another swing in free agency.

Well, I would rather work on developing Carney on a reasonable deal and ship out Brewer for whatever we can get. I think theres more potential in Carney than Brewer.

you guys had it going there...

trade him for some rocks
trade him in a box
mail it with a bow
mail it where I don't know?

maybe send it in a car
but send it really far
perhaps take it by a truck
hope it gets there by good luck!

try delivery by a plane
but keep it dry & from the rain
or ship it on a boat
will the package actually float?

we could send it anywhere
but will a GM really care
how it ends up at his house
if its not better than a mouse!

Gomes is a 3 that can play the 4 in a small lineup.

Carney is a 2.

no worries there.

They are the same height and Carney defends way better. I think Carney is a way better option to start at small forward.

Gomes BBIQ and general effect on the game is miles ahead of Carney.

He has 3 good games and all of a sudden goes from a nobody to our starting SF of the future?

I like Carney's energy, but lets not start building teams around him. He's not the brightest bulb in the house, but he is learning ... the only person he's going to replace is McCants.

Brewer is not going anywhere at the mercy of Carney ...

Gomes is likely the odd man out (in the long run) due his inability to play with intensity for more than 10 seconds at a time. Thats too bad because he fairly skilled and has a decent BB IQ.

Idk, I might agree with the BBIQ, but not to where Gomes has any noticeable difference on the court.

Rodney Carney:
Roland Rating: -0.3
+/-: +2.9
Production: -1.9
eFG%: .509
PER: 11.9

Ryan Gomes:
Roland Rating: -5.2
+/-: -6.7
Production: -4.4
PER: 11.5
eFG: .499

With Ryan Gomes, we already know what we have. He's a pretty good role player, and steps up big for us from time to time. Rodney Carney is a couple years younger, and due to his athleticism has more upside. I think we need to give the guy consistent minutes just so we can be sure what we have with him.

Whoever thinks Brew needs to go to make room for Carney us crazy. That is not about to happen. Brewer's BBIQ is far and away better than Carney. I love Carney, and if we can sign him to a Telfair/Gomes/Smith like contract i would love to have him back.
