Use waiver priority on Oden???

Post#1 » by AshyLarrysDiaper » Fri Jan 16, 2009 4:17 pm

He just became available in my 12-team, 9-cat league.

I don't have a great need for centers: I already have Nene, Biedrins and Al Jefferson, with Tyrus backing me up on blocks. But I like to snatch up assets, esp. ones with big names that can be used as trade-bait later.

Drop candidates:

Kleiza
Warrick
Augustin

Really just the first two since I need assists and Augustin will be valuable when the 'Cats eventually trade Felton.

And oh, I'm #2 in waiver-priority. I've carefully guarded it up to this point and don't want to lose it over BS.

Is your league very active? Do people add/drop repeatedly? I just dropped Oden in my league. He was filler in a trade I completed early/mid November. My reason for dropping Oden was how much he frustrated me, with his inconsisent play. And it wasn't play that was 18/10 one night, then 12/8 the next. Its more 6/4 most nights with the occasional 10/10 game.

I would recommend picking him up once he clears Waivers for Kleiza. Linus will retain his value for two more weeks then lose it. Augustin is a keeper for assists and will have a better second half of the season once Felton is dealt. Warrick will receive more PT than Kleiza.

I don't think that consistency of Oden warrants a waiver pick up. If you have an active league, someone may use waivers to pick him up, but he will be dropped after a few bad games which he will have.

If possible, go for Kristic.

I like your thinking. My league is very active, and there's a pretty good chance someone will pick him up off of waivers, but my waiver priority will probably serve me better down the road.

Oden has 11 double doubles on the season and has only played 30 + minutes 6 times so far. If he could figure out how to stay out of foul trouble, he would be quite the C2 option.

Ah well, someone scooped him up off waivers. I have some regrets, considering that the guy with #1 waiver-priority (my brother) is a hawk like myself, and is likely to get his hands on 'the big prize' that I've been saving my priority for. I can only hope that there are several more ill-advised drops coming down the pike.

Be patient. I would never use a #1 priority on a guy as inconsistent as Oden. He'll be dropped within the next two weeks I bet.
