Question About Amare and Shaq

Post#1 » by TheBluest » Fri Jan 16, 2009 6:20 pm

From the Knicks board Suns fans. Many of our fans are very interested in acquiring Amare come 2010, not including myself because I have major issues with Amare.

Personally I think your team has performed ok this season. You guys let a couple games slip past you that could have easily been a W but as with every season you have to learn.

My beef with Amare is his total lack of being a defensive presence on the court. How is Shaq averages more rebounds and blks than Amare when Shaq plays less minutes and less games? How is it Amare has never averaged 10reb/gm and only managed to produce over 2blks/gm for one season? How? It doesn't make sense someone who is as physically talented as him can't achieve this!

Shaq is still very important to this team is he not? Maybe just as valuable as Nash?

Hate to say it but most of the blame goes on D'antoni, I agree part of it is lack of motivation but D'antoni basically just let Amare do what ever he wanted and Amare wanted to score. He never had a coach to teach him the fundamentals of basketball. I mean now that Terry Porter has come I noticed Amare is at least trying to play some defense but the guys 26 now and has been in the league for 7 years.

I doubt Coach D'Antoni would want Amare on the Knicks

Yada yada yada...keep blaming somebody else instead of Amare. I'm sure it's the same thing Amare does to justify his deficiencies. This way he'll never be "the best" as he alsways claims he wants to be.

Dantoni would cream his pants if someway he can get Amare to the Knicks.

It's not Dantoni's or anyone's fault that Amare keeps getting in foul trouble and can't grab atleast 10 rebounds per game. The reason he stayed out of foul trouble when Dantoni was coaching this team is simply because Dantoni didn't like his team fouling at all and just said id rather give up an easy layup then foul and slow the game down. Now Amare can't get away with that sh*t anymore because Terry Porter won't tolerate easy layups.

+1

I like Amar'e a lot, both his game and as a person but the simple fact is he has had opportunity to work on his deficiencies, he could have hired a big-man coach in the off-season - Bill Russell, whoever - and worked on his D and rebounding.
To my knowledge he hasn't. It's not like no-one has told him he needs to step those aspects up - he says so himself. it just never happens. This may be who Amar'e is: a brilliantly gifted and athletic scorer, period.
As such he'll be considered an exciting but limited star when his career is over. he won't be considered a Great, which is too bad because he's so close.

Yeah, it'll be too bad because he's very gifted. If only he'd play with half of Garnett's intensity he would average 40+20.

Yeah, and if Derrick Coleman wasn't an idiot, he'd be one of the greatest PFs of all time.

It's about time we stop talking about how "gifted" and "talented" Amare is, stop talking about his "potential", and accept the reality of the situation: the guy is a one dimensional player, not a "star", and that dimension isn't what we need right now.
