Scal is no longer a joke.

Post#1 » by Joebiscuit » Sat Jan 17, 2009 8:41 pm

Seriously Scal has been playing very well the past week or so and has done a great job filling in for Perk. He has been playing good defense and hitting his shots. With Scal starting the Celtics can spread the floor a little better. At this point I think he should be part of the rotation when Perk gets back.

Scal I feel always knew how to play, just lacks the physical gifts to get it done without alot of talent around him. Playing with the starters is only him tp roam and do the little things.

I always wish I could put Scals knowledge into Gerald Greens body. Gerald was physically capable to do anything on the court, just didnt know how.

Actually, Scal does a lot of things that Posey did....only not as flashy and not consistently.

But then what would you do with the leftover knowledge and leftover body? You'd have to also put Gerald Green's knowledge in Scalabrine's body. What would become of that hapless creature?

You can't just go around during thunderstorms, swapping souls and body parts and yelling out, "It lives! It lives!" without thinking of the moral consequences.

To put Gerald Greens knowledge in Scalabrines body, he'd have to have some knowledge to begin with.

Scalabrine is a smart player that was trying to do too much as times. He has a lot less pressure playing with the starters. When Scalabrine was playing well in New Jersey, it was because he was playing with the starters also.

I was hoping we would get his season high today, but it didn't happen. But he still played another good game.

I think he could be the Assistant Manager of a grocery store somewhere in New Jersey.

Oh man Gant, that's classic!

And Scal will always be a joke. I can still remember clearly when I found out we signed him, what a traumatic event.

Scal has been playing great, I have to give him his due.

But just because he played a couple of good games in a few years of a crappy contract, doesn't give him a pass.

when scalabrine plays within his limitations he is an effective rotation player
when he doesn't, it is catasrophic

I had been a scal suporter for quite some time. Just when I finally start to think that we should put him out of his misery, he starts playing stellar. When he's on his best game, he's not a bad substitue for Posey. Let's just hope plays consistently well.

It'd be great if this line up worked so well that Perk went to the bench where they really need size and defense. That way we make no trades and address our needs. But relying on Scal to play as good as he has is asking for a lot.

Scal needs to be part of the rotation. He essentially does most of the things Big Baby does, but with much less mistakes and a better shot.

Our regular bench rotation should be Powe, Scal, TA, and Pruitt....... with a bit of House sprinkled in in some situations.

Powe is the banger down lowe that can sub out for KG or Perk... and Scal can sub out for either guy too, but offers more shooting. TA is your wing defender off the bench, and Pruitt can both run the point and play the 2, with a good shot (Dwest anyone?).

This cracks me up.

Scal has always filled a need for this team and is showing it now.

But please go back to including him in every fantastic trade idea as soon as Perk comes back.

You'd better transplant Scal's brain while you're at it: TA demonstrates that body and knowledge aren't quite the whole package.

I also agree we should move Powe to c and scal to pf in our second unit...if baby can play c, so can Powe

I don´t think so. Davis is a HUGE human being. He is not that tall, but man he´s wide and heavy.
Powe is a bull but he is smaller than Davis so I can´t see him as a center.

But play Scal as a back up center and you get an Okur Lite. Sweet shooting big man.

I think playing Scal with our second unit would be a nice move because he would space the floor, free the lane and let guys like Tony, Leon and Walker enough room to operate. He can knock down the shots that Davis has been missing this season. And of course he is a very nice passing big guy so he would minimize the lack of playmaking skills of Eddie or Tony.

But most of all, he is a heady, strong, hustle player.

Scal is not an NBA quality player. Okur lite? Okur can hit threes and rebounds and defends like a center. Scal is more like Pittsnogle lite.

Scal's career Hollinger PER is 7.9, not very good by any standard.

Current 7.9 that we may know Mark Iavaroni and Adam Morrison.

Scal shoots outside better and passes better then Iavoroni does rebound as well as Marl. Scal rebounds better then Morrison ( who still may get better )

Dont compare him to Pittsnogle, the poor guy couldnt get out of the NBDL.

The Celts have played like they used to do last four games. Scal has started all those four games.
He has played 25-30 minutes, scored 9 ppg while shooting .490%FG, 3 rpg, 0.75 spg, 0.75 bpg and 0.5 topg.
But most of all the lost flow and rhythm seems to be back for the green machine.

He is not a star but he is a good role player. And as a role player he is more valuable to this team than many jumpingjackflash guys.
