CHA-MN

Post#1 » by shrink » Sun Jan 18, 2009 5:23 pm

I thought this one was interesting and worthy of discussion.

Some of the questions I had was whether we think this is a good use of our money, or can we do better in free agency (Marvin Williams?) or trade .. avoiding Nazr?

And does the emerging Carney make Wallace as viable as before?

WizardsWorld wrote:After todays Cats Diop deal, I see this going down next:

Bobcats get:
Rashard McCants
Jason Collins
Brian Cardinal
09 Miami 1st

Wolves get:
Gerald Wallace
Nazr Mohammed

Cats:
C: Diop
PF: Okafor
SF: Diaw
SG: McCants
PG: Felton
*** Cats get rid of the now useless Mohammed and swap Wallace and his big deal for McCants the UNC local. They can probably resign McCants for MLE money or less after the year and they pick up a 1st.

Wolves
C: Mohammed(until they one day get a REAL center)
PF: Jefferson
SF: Wallace
SG: Miller
PG: Foye
*** Wolves get the best player in the deal in Wallace and only have to give up 3 guys who dont play, MIA 1st and absord Nazr's 2 year deal.

The financials:

shrink wrote:Crash is worth his contract, Nazr is not. The trade value is the package.

Crash + Nazr
----------------------
2008-09 15,549,400 (9,500,000 + 6,049,400)
2009-10 15,966,600 (9,500,000 + 6,466,600)
2010-11 16,383,000 (9,500,000 + 6,883,800)
2011-12 9,500,000 (just Wallace)
2012-13 9,500,000 (just Wallace)
------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL $66,899,000

Collins + Cardinal + McCants + Miami 1st Pick
--------------------------------------------------
2008-09 15,120,126 (6,200,000 + 6,300,000 + 2,620,126)
2009-10 7,950,000 (6,750,000 + 1,200,000 ) (Cardinal + 1st Round pick)
2010-11 1,400,000 (just the pick)
---------------------------------------------------
TOTAL $24,470,126 in guaranteed salary. Maybe a little more depending on whether McCants is signed for a good contract (team's choice) and the 1st, but team can say no to bad money.

The point of the original deal is that CHA saves $40 MILLION, and most of it is the valuable, post 2010 money.

I saw this on trade board, not a fan.

It's a tough one as we do get the best player and one that improves our team. Plus the pick is the only value we give. I probably lean towards no just due to the Nazr contract.

I agree, it's a tough one. It would be great to have Crash and his much needed defensive presence around w/ a reasonable contract, no doubt about it.

But Nazrs contract with 3 years left is a nogo, since we would give up any kind of cap space flexibility especially considering the at least 2 positions where we in the need of significant upgrades.

Plus getting Wallace would leave us with Wallace, Brewer, Gomes and Carney at the 3 which probably means that we have to get rid of Gomes and either one of Brewer/Carney, which would be hard to suffer, since I still hope those two could develop into solid starters at sf for us.

This one is close for me. I'd probably do it, but Nazr's contract is tough to swallow.

I don't like giving up the miami pick or collins' expiring.
Plus I think Bobcats fans would riot since they're not getting back anyone decent right away and a pick in the 15-18 range for their favorite player. I posted this on the miller thread:

miller
mccants
smith
madsen

for
wallace
mohammed

I don't like taking on mohammed's 3 yrs and 19.3 mil,
but the bobcats want anyone dealing for wallace to take him apparently.

I still like Miller/McCants/Miami 1st for Wallace/Ajinca. But compared to younggunsmn's trade mine seems to favor the Wolves. I guess I might be willing to add Cardinal/Nazr to that, but like everyone has said Nazrs contract is a killer.

counter:

Miller/McCants/Telfair/Boston 1st

for

Wallace/Felton/Brown

big increasing contracts like Wallace's aren't en vogue right now; plus he's an ever-present injury concern and an inconsistent player.

talent-wise the cats get hung out to dry, but salaries carry a lot of weight these days, any team willing to take on a big salary in this climate for a non all-star shouldn't have to pay to heavy a price

Sham has his contract at 9.5M at a flat rate.

that damages my argument for the Bobcats making this trade, you should edit that just in case Rod Higgins and Michael Jordan are reading this. Together. While holding hands.

I would likely do the deal. We are sure then that we have the SF we need. It is really a hard choice to make. I would probably approach Atl about a s/t first.
