Packer Scrimmage

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Sun Aug 5, 2007 1:04 am

Favre on fire, Jennings with a bunch of catches, Driver with a TD. Jackson with a nice grab.

Clowney with a return for a TD.

Second team offense now in.

Rodgers has looked terrible. I know it's just the scrimmage, but he looked bad ever since the Packers drafted him. It would be a shame if a gift (with Rodgers possibly being the #1 pick falling down to #23 in 2005) turns out to be damaged goods. I'm not sure if he'll ever be a good heir to Favre.

Jones, soft hands, big target, looks smooth.

If all goes well, Brandon Jackson could be the next Brian Westbrook.

Jackson looks good, he needs to learn to block before he plays a lot though.

Jackson's receiving ability is nice to see even though it is just a scrimmage.

Favre looked good (minus the int to collins) hooking up with Driver / Jennings

I think Rogers settled down a bit. He looked decent tonight when you note that he was running for his life because of the 2nd string O-line. His throws were accurate and he was completing them for the most part (to 3rd stringers). I still wouldn't give up on him until you give him a chance to run the team when Favre leaves.

I'm still not sure why we drafted a kicker. I think / thought Raynor did a good job last year. I don't know how much of an upgrade Crosby would be even if he did beat out Raynor. Although if they break even in camp, I give the edge to Crosby because Thompson used a pick on him.

We'll have a little better read on the team next week after the 1st preseason game when they go against "live" opponents.

Same point I was going to make about Rodgers, smacks. If you guys Tivo'd this, go back and watch the pass blocking when Rodgers was in their with the 2's versus the 1's. Jenkins was just killing his man on every play in particular.

I actually thought he looked pretty good overall. His arm strength looked great and he had good accuracy while on the move (which was nearly every play).

I was watching Rodgers with the biggest detractors of his I know, and even they had good things to say about him.

That said, I rarely watched much of the thing. I was in the kitchen watching the Crew.

That comment really made me excited.

I didn't get to watch the scrimmage, but it sounds like there were a lot of positives tonight. I can't wait until the first preseason game next Saturday.

Me either, that's when we can really start getting a read of some of these new guys.
