Trade Halladay?

Richard Griffin again stirring the waters.... Not sure whether he is making this argument morally (we "owe" it to Roy to be rid of us) or strategically (boatload of young prospects). He seems to pay homage to both...

Nevertheless, for the first time as a Jays' fan, I'm open to the possiblity. Sad, really.

Same. I feel for Doc. He really deserves to play for a contender. It would be nice to see him win some games that actually matter. But didn't JP just say that there was no way he was dealing him? I'd love for us to have an amazing squad in 2010 so Doc can be a part of it before he leaves.

same..feel srry for Doc. He obviously deserves better than this. At the same time, would be sad for Doc being dealt and no more a Blue Jay.

Yes...but not this season. This is not a good trading environment; the economy will promote a degree of caution on the part of many teams (especially the Cubs, with the Tribune having gone into bankruptcy protection), and there are too many good-to-great pitchers on the market to make a fair return likely.

Keep Halladay through 2009, and explore moves next off-season as he enters his walk year. At that time, the state of the farm system might be better known, and he'll be the most desirable commodity on the market, rather than one of many.

I don't remember the source, but I think Roy leads the league in most games played without a sniff of the playoffs... he does deserve better, a true professional.

Yes, trade him. What's the point of keeping one of the best pitchers in baseball, who is in his prime, on a non playoff team?

Deal him for 2 to 3 young prospects and then a legit 5 tool player. People will deal gold for Halladay considering his contract and his performance.

He could easily take a almost contending team and push them over the top. We could reap the rewards.

Fire JP now and see what the new GM can put together before we resign to trading our best pitcher

our city deserves to have JP fired...he's our teams biggest flaw

If it is unreasonable to win this year, we need to acquire prospects for next year. And the next.

I agree... our farm system is complete crap, and Halladay will yield a couple of good prospects.

He'll get a HUGE standing O when he gets back.

No, not so much. It isn't great, but this isn't 3 years ago. It is probably above average as long as Snider is considered a prospect, instead of a big leaguer; at which point it is still probably average, though heavy on the young, thus harder to predict, guys.

And if all you get for him is 'a couple of good prospects', you may as well just let him leave via FA. Halladay will almost assuredly get you the first and a sandwich pick people thought Burnett would get, and you get to watch him for two more years.

JP says a lot of things that are not true. Remember Ryan's "back" injury?

Lets see how we do before trading him - but if we are going to stink for the foreseeable future we owe it to Doc to trade him to a contender.

I am against trading Hallday as I believe he's the best Pitcher in the AL.

However, if we were to trade him, I would want a different GM making that trade. Thats not a task I'd be comfortable with JP completing. I'm too worried that he'd pull a Babcock with Vince Carter.

If the Jays are planning to contend in 2010 (whatever that is supposed to mean), they'd probably be better served keeping Halladay.
