ORL Vs. BOS Vs. Cle - Analysis of the remaining schedule!

Post#1 » by klemen4 » Tue Jan 20, 2009 4:53 pm

I made analysis what is ahead of the top 3 teams in East:

Home Vs. away games

ORL 24:19
BOS 18:21
CLE 21:22

Now lets look the quality of the oponent teams. That is why I will devide teams in 2 groups:

- Good teams: Top 9 Western teams + top 8 Eastern teams(Bos,Orl,Cle,Atl,Det,Mia,Phi,Mil)
- Avarage teams: Other 13 teams

Home games against avarage teams Vs. good teams

ORL 13:11
BOS 9:9
CLE 8:13

Away game against avarage teams Vs. good teams

ORL 9:11
BOS 5:16 *!!!
CLE 10:12

Away games Vs. top 9 Western teams:

ORL 2 (NOH, HOU)
BOS 6 (NOH, DAL, UTA, PHO, DEN, SAS)
CLE 5 (POR, UTA, HOU, SAS, PHO)

Looking the schedule Orlando is the favorite to finish first:

- They have the fewest away games(19)
- They have a majority of home games against average teams(13:11)
- They have the fewest away games against good teams(11)
- They have the fewest away games against top 9 Eastern teams(2)

Your opinion?

I'd break teams into 4 groups

tier 1 - elite - Boston/orlando/cleveland/LA -
tier 2 - good - other 8 top west teams + Detroit, Atlanta, Miami
tier 3 - average - rest of the east except wizards
tier 4 - bad - bottom 6 of the west + wizards

See how things look then. lumping Chicago and Boston together as "good" teams makes no sense.

What is it about Orlando and their inferiority complex?

I think so too. Boston can't compete with both of us when we are healthy. It will be Lakers and Blazers in the WCF.

You think the Blazers could beat New Orleans, San Antonio etc?

I think the Blazers fade a bit going into the playoffs and will have to face a top seed int he West.

As afar as the East, I think the Cavs are a lock for the ECF but the Celtics are very crafty and the Magic are straight dangerous.

The playoffs are going to be fun......but as in all pro sports, one of the those Top 3 teams could get bounced in an upset. Detroit or Atlanta could be a bad team to play.

^^ I think in a seven game series they could. New Orleans hasn't impressed me the two times we played them this year.

Good analysis by the thread starter.

I thought the same glancing at the schedules, Orl has picked up some quality wins. At the same time some of their losses were against some relatively scrub teams so you never know who they will drop a game to.

Much like the Cavs beating NO and losing to the Bulls, ultimately the strength of schedule doesn't mean all that much.
