No more hot rod

Post#1 » by Lava Rock Kid » Wed Jan 21, 2009 9:02 pm

From the deseret news.
HOT ROD PLANS: Radio play-by-play announcer Hot Rod Hundley has told Jazz management he only wants to call home games next season, but Rigby said no decision in that regard has been made — and no candidates to call road games, should the team agree to Hundley's request, have been identified.

I dont live in Utah and I miss seeing and hearing hot rod on the TV. Bolerjack is a moron. If I have to hear buckle up one more time!!!!!!
I know the article states that he only wants to do home games, but I cant imagine in this economy Rigby will want to pay an additional broadcaster for away games.
The day may come when we no longer hear the hot rod.

I loved the Hot Rod days "You're looking live!" but he is old and off TV and a hall of famer. Let the man stay HOME! Most old people can't leave their living rooms.

And Bolerjack, while cheesy and repetitive (who isnt), he is FAR better than 90% of the league. Trust me, I have league pass and I've had it since 1997.

Shouldn't the title be 1/2 as much Hot Rod?

Amen about the rest of the league,
A tie for the worst
Calvin Murphy from the Rockets, before he started molesting his daughters.
Or the Maverick Announcers. Remember the Stockton and Malone days when those two buffoons spent the entire game on every play pointing out the dirty tricks stock or malone would do. All they talked about was how dirty those two were. I still remember watching malone guarding Dork and swatting at the ball, but those two announcers was commenting that malone knew dorks wrist hurt and malone was trying to hurt it worst.

I liked the old guy from the laker broadcast of old. He used to call Stock, little jonnie stockton, but showed uber support for stock.

Boler's CBS experience has made him less homerish than most of the league.

I like Hot Rod a lot. Too bad he's not going to broadcast all the games next season.

I think Bolerjack is very good, no complains about him at all.

About homerism. I think no one can surpass the Denver broadcaster, its kind of funny. Once he said he 'd bet on Eduardo Najera against Matt Harpring, hahahaha.

I like to listen to the 76ers broacaster, its pretty cool when he says "Igoudala hammers it down" !!!

The Cavs broadcaster is also good.

Regards,

I really dislike Boler and Booner. Not the people, but, the job they do. Hot Rod was terrific. Even if he blew a name now and then, he painted a verbal picture of the game, made the game more enjoyable.

The guys we have now are pretty poor. It's called 'play by play' for a reason.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Yeah, Hot Rod was amazing, and even though I loved his TV calls, I really appreciated him the year I could only listen to games on the radio (when he was doing the simulcast). His ability to create a visual of what's happening in one's mind's eye is unparalleled.

As for Boler, I think he fits somewhere in the middle of the NBA pack as far as announcer homerism. When Memo hits a three to make the score 15-11 five minutes into the first quarter, he'll flip out: "MEMO!!!!!!! MONEY!!!!! OKUR!!!!!!!!!" But at the same time, he's not as bad as some in bitching about calls that go against the home team.

The absolute worst in the league have to be Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, and Portland.

I have to rely on the radio call whenever I exceed my peak download limit towards the end of the month. Hundley's voice is as smooth as silk and he sticks to the action, unlike the homer-ific bs most two-man radio broadcast teams produce. He's possibly the best radio play-by-play in the NBA, but there are increasingly frequent signs of him losing the plot.

"And on the floor for the Jazz: D-Will, Memo Okur, Miles, Koufos aaaannd.... Okur" for example. He's done that three times in the past two games.

Still, he's an excellent broadcaster overall and it'll be a shame to lose him for half the season.
