Jason Kidd next season?

Post#1 » by lakeshow248 » Thu Jan 22, 2009 7:52 pm

He seems like a guy that is gonna go to a winning team for much less money. He is making 21 million this year and has made a ton of money through out his career. Could we see J Kidd in a Laker uniform giving the Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Sam Cassell or PJ Brown discount.

He will be 36 this March but his numbers with the Mavs' this year are still solid. 9.1 ppg, 8.2 ast, 6.5 reb and 2.3 steals per game. Not bad at all, even his 3 pt % is solid at .391 this year and his free throw percentage has always been solid .811 this year.

I was just reading an article where he thinks he can play until he is 40. Even a one year deal for Kidd would be nice IMO, I think him and Fish would be a really nice combo. If Ariza does walk then Kidd would be a nice replacement. Kidd can play the one and the two, and would help a lot when Kobe goes for a rest. Having Kidd, Fish, Gasol, Odom, Sasha on the floor while Kobe and Bynum sits for a rest would be amazing.

I think he will. He's good friends with Kobe and they've always wanted to play with each other.

I'm not sure if he fits into the triangle that well, but he is totally unselfish, a great floor general, moves well without the ball, is highly intelligent, and keeps the ball moving with passes. He is also a good post-up point guard.

He can't play effective d against quick pg's anymore, but he plays 2's pretty well. Still a ball-hawk and great rebounding guard (best in the league). He'd do a much better job of reading when to run and when not to than anybody we have now.

Yeah, I'd get him, as long as his contract is reasonable.

I think of him as a better version of what Luke is to the Lakers as a PG in his current state.

for the vet minimum i would considering his age. He'll mainly be our playmaker.

but would we rather go for the experience or younger, faster, and one that can defend better.

Dear god no, He's only getting worse. He wont help on the D where fish is already getting blown by every PG in the league. No thanks.

He's only been one of the greatest defenders ever at the PG position during his career, so I'm confident he's capable of keeping it going at a good level despite the obvious setbacks his athleticism is going to take as he ages. He certainly has the knowledge when it comes to defense.

That would be an incredible veteran pickup. Jason Kidd (while past his prime) is still one of the better PGs in the league, and considering the dearth of talent on this team, would flourish alongside Kobe-Odom-Gasol-Bynum. Add to that Kobe's always wanted to play with Kidd?

Do it Mitch. I know Kidd knows his days in the league are numbered, and he wants a ring. Here's his best chance in LA.

Perfect, perfect, perfect player for us.

So perfect and bankable that I'd construct the team around him (w/Kobe and Bynum).

I think he can guard most PGs but would probably be most effective guarding SGs at this stage.

That being said, you have to play Kidd and Kobe with another wing player that can guard quick PGs ... someone like Ariza (on a side note Kidd would do wonders for Ariza and Bynum).

Vujacic and Farmar would become expendable, not because they can't play with Kidd, but because they wouldn't be effective and successful defensive mixes with Kidd.

Guys like Charlie Bell or even Damian Wilkins could be less effective shooters than Vujacic but better defensive replacements (able to guard 1s, 2s, and 3s with toughness).

Guys like Shaun Livingston or Kyle Weaver (great last year at Washington State), IMO, would be great understudies for Kidd until he'd retire in 3 years (more or less).

I'd give my middle nut for Kidd.

He hitting the 3 at a solid percentage, he can pass still at an elite level, and he has the size. Great tri 1. For cheap we'd be stupid not to sign him.

I really hope we win THIS year but even if we do, next year we're MUCH better if we look something like this:

PG - Kidd *signed for minimum*
SG - Kobe
C - Bynum
PF - Gasol
SF - Ariza *resigned for Vujacic money (3yr/15 mill)*

G - Livingston *signed for minimum* (could be special playing behind Kidd and not asked to guard PGs)
G - Fisher
C - Eddy Curry - for Walton, Radman, Farmar, and Mihm (3.7 mill sign & trade) in the off season
F - Odom *resigned for 7.5 mill p/yr*
F - Damien Wilkins (defensive, streak shooting role player) for Vujacic in the off season

- Powell
- Luther Head *signed for minimum* (Fisher's successor as gunner/PG defender off bench)

- Kyle Weaver - in Wilkins deal (big PG distributor/defender, insurance if Livingston can't play)
- Mbenga
- Jared Jeffries - in Curry deal (chance to beat out Wilkins for backup SF--just can't shoot!)

Kidd ain't going to take the minimum I don't think. He'd still be a steal at the MLE if we could get him for that.

Kidd is still playing like a top 10 PG in this league. No way he takes the minimum.
