Neon1,
Right back at you dude.
Reddick is in the rotation because Pietrus is out. He comes back,Reddick gets buried again.
The thread was started by a Magic fan offering Gortat, not me. He asked for Dorsey, who is clearly not ready for prime time. Hayes can play now-and has a team option on his third yr and since his salary is @$800,000 LESS than Reddick's next yr,explain by what wonderous logic 1 yr of a player making less than the player he's traded for hurts your cap. Head has a team option for next yr.
Rereading your post, let me do the math for you-this yr Hayes($1.8mil-bonus' in his salary could be less,or tad more) and Head $1.962=$3.8-$3.9mil. Wilks($$1mil),Gortat($712tho) and Reddick($2.14mil)=@$3.85mil. Depending on Hayes'reaching his bonus,Orl either gets LESS in salary or less than $100,000 more. I seriously doubt you are that close to the cap.
There's no way Hou would take Cook and his $3.5mil player option for Head, who is a potential expiring contract and Dorsey w/his $800,000 contract. Cook for Head and Dorsey puts Hou OVER the Lux Tax THIS yr,so that's a non-starter. Beyond the fact Cook is garbage.
The variation I suggested is pretty cap neutral, both this yr and the next.(Hou actually pays more for 1 yr of Reddick than Orl for 1 yr of Hayes, but I'd expect Hou to trade Reddick,as they don't have to justify drafting him.) However,I don't see the Magic moving Gortat this yr,so it's pretty academic.
Are Head and Dorsey considered expendable?

Redick plays. ALL of our SG's play. We arent intereseted in moving THAT much. Not for two guys that dont even play for you and wouldnt be playing for us regularly either. All we want is 3rd string CHEAP,YOUNG,ATHLETIC, bench filler.
Gortat was only mentioned because his salary matches. Our team wouldnt move Gortat to get Dorsey. Gortat is our backup center. We would have no interest in obtaining Chuck Hayes, he has way too many years left on his deal and he isnt the type of guy we would need. All we need is an forceful athletic energy guy/goon type of guy that we could afford to come in and push people around.
We need a Dwight Howard bodyguard basically. Joey Dorsey fits that
physical and mental type. Chuck Hayes isnt that guy and even if he was hes too expensive (and too long a contract) to be paired with Head. We NEED the space under the threshold and we need to cut salary to resign Turk next year without crossing over. That is why the main prospect to move would be one of Cook,Redick or Bogans. In that order. We would NOT move two of those players together and we would NOT add Gortat in addition too one of those players.
ALL we want to do is move guys that serve no purpose on our team for players that serve no purpose on your team. I dont even know if our GM would even give up Bogans,Redick etc for your guys being asked for. One of them PLUS Gortat would be a definate no.
Your team wouldnt be doing it for Cook, they would be doing it for the pick. Dorsey and Head contracts together are the only package that fits our needs and current available finances. If you guys were in a situation to where you couldnt handle the extra 600k, and were deadset on trying to force an more expensive Hayes on us we would just move on to a cheap free agent type like Richard Hendrix and see how that goes. Which is basically the same type player as Hayes except hes a lot bigger and hes free. I only inquired because you guys have TWO available guys sitting there at the positions and contractual needs that we have.
Im not comparing Hayes salary to Redicks, because we already are cutting salary at the SG because Bogans is expiring. Redick is signed cheap to fill that expected gap at the 3rd SG and hes cheaper than Bogans. We move Redick then we will turn around and have to replace him too next season. We'd rather have Dorsey who is signed for a few years at a 800k range rate.
A smart coach once said, "Potential just means you're not good enough yet." Playing on potential is like living on air: It's essential, but if thats all you have, you're eventually going to starve.

Re: Are Head and Dorsey considered expendable?
Neon1,
Houston is less than $500thou under the Lux Tax and the owner has stated the team has to stay under the tax. Cook makes @$700thou more than Head and Dorsey combined,so Hou would never do it,not even for a First. Bogans would work, possib Reddick and Wilks.
The catch is,while Hou would love to unload Head for nothing,Dorsey is another matter. He is seen as a project who will prob replace Hayes next yr.(Making Hayes a decent throw-in on a trade.) In the Exhibition games Dorsey was wracking up fouls like crazy. He isn't ready yet. Throw in his recent bout w/plantar fasciitis that's keeping him off the court, and he's not a guy you can give significant minutes to anytime soon. If Orlando called and offered a First for Dorsey(using a TE) I really don't know what Hou would do-despite my quip previous about the jet. Dorsey is seen as the future 3rd big, able to back up Yao,as well as play alongside him. Hou trades him away and next yr they have to go bargain shopping amoung FAs and that will cost more than Dorsey,so I just don't see him being moved unless Hou is getting a solid big in return-or in another trade.
The original thread question was if Hou considered Head and Dorsey expendable. My bet is a definite yes on Head, and a no on Dorsey.(If next yrs dradft was thought to be as deep as this yrs, maybe the team would consider it,but it isn't,so I doubt it.)
BTW,somewhat OT,but d***,Lee is turning out to be a heck of a pick. I really wish he'd fallen to the Rockets. I've been as impressed w/his playmaking as his D. In the unlikely event Turkoglu leaves,Lee just might cushion the blow.
