Houston's offical wants to trade Ron Artest!

Post#1 » by alex_cheung » Fri Jan 23, 2009 1:48 am

According to article on
http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2009-01-23/03004185279.shtml

It is reported by houston local station 1560, houston's offical are not satisfied with his profermance,
they are scouting a new opportunity to trade him. The anchor people John and Reims said it's a reliable news from League. If this is true, I'm really disappointed in Daryl Morey, free himself from the injuries, he's been good for us, but his true value will be proved by time.

I can see why they would want to but It's too early to give up on him

"The anchor people John and Reims"

I listen to 1560 all the time. It's far and away the best sports radio station in town. And the thing of it is....

There IS NO John and Reims.

When the hell are we all gonna gather hands across America and agree to now and forever more ignore Chinese "news sources"?

To play Devil's Advocate...
Assume the Rockets believe Von Wafer is legit, not just a flash in the pan. He brings energy and scoring off the bench.
Further Carl Landry has started to assert himself on the offensive end, providing a solid second scoring option off the bench.
Assume the team was afraid McGrady wouldn't be ready to start the season and wanted someone who knew Adelman's offence and could start the season as the Man while Tracy recovered. Then when Tracy would miss his 4-5 games w/whatever injury would occur Artest would be there. If Yao went down again,Artest would provide the low-post scoring. But Ron got hurt and hasn't been able to replace McGrady.
The Rockets are afraid the sum is less than the parts. Ron has not particularly meshed w/Yao or Brooks. W/out Artest the ball has moved much better. The team is afraid when he comes back the offense will grind to a halt.
Assume the team and Ron's agent have had exploratory talks about what Ron wants. Further assume that figure is far from what the Rockets want to pay. So instead of letting Ron walk for nothing, why not try to get a useable rotation player-or draft pick-for him?
The lockerroom may have begun splintering. And Ron was viewed as a primary cause.(I'm not saying this is the case, but I'm playing Devil's Advocate here.)
Finally,Ron and Shane are the most attractive Rocket trade assets.

In short,it's possible that the emergence of Wafer and Landry, and the inability of Ron to do what was expected of him could cause someone in the Rockets front office to express the opinion that Ron should be traded.
But like most here,I believe it's bovine waste by-product. The Rockets are going to want to see everybody reasonably healthy to see what they've got and will prob ride this roster thru the Playoffs.

Morey did say he planned on making a move at the deadline. Personally, I'm really hoping it's nothing major, but at the same time, there really isn't any particular need for us at this point, so it could be anything. Especially considering all of the injuries we've had. Wrecking chemistry isn't a concern, since we've never had our players healthy enough to establish any in the first place, so I wouldn't be surprised if Morey moves any of our oft-injured players.

I would still hate it, though. This team has so much potential, and we're finally giving Ron and T-Mac some time to get right. I don't want to blow it up before even getting a chance to see what these guys can do.

Great insight. I, too, agree that it's too far fetched to think that Artest could be traded before the the deadline.

Yeah, its been on clutchfans for about 2 days now. I dont want to lose Artest so soon but then agian I dont see him resigning unless we go really deep in the playoffs this year. What would you guys think if we could trade Artest, Scola, and Head for Amare stoudemire (I saw this trade proposal on CF)?

I wouldn't mind that trade but if Stoudamire is complaining about not being more of the main offense in Phoenix i don't know how he'd mesh here??

If we could do that trade we would do it in a second but PHX will never agree to that.

Artest + Dorsey to the Knicks for David Lee + Malik Rose

Rockets
F: Lee/Battier
F: Scola/Landry/Hayes/Rose
C: Yao/Mutombo
G: Alston/Brooks/Head
G: Wafer/Barry/McGrady
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

This is unheard of!!! I am sticking with Morey, he said the Rockets had no plans to add or make any significant trades this year. This would count as a huge significant trade, plus the fact that the Rockets haven't had time to gel as a somewhat healthy team. I ain't buying it.

we got enough undersized PF

we are not going to get Amare for Artest or T-Mac
we don't need PF we need to upgrade our PG
we are not going to get Paul, DWill, Rose
only PG that make sense is Hinrich cause Nash/Calderon doesn't play defense to fit in our system
question for us is Les willing to take his contract
Chicago is not going anywhere this season
they might be looking to clear some cap

only deal that make sense to me is Artest/Head or Brooks for Hinrich (both Artest and Head are expiring contracts)

C - Yao, Hayes, Mutombo
PF - Scola, Landry, Dorsey
SF - Battier, Wafer
SG - T-Mac, Barry, (Head)
PG - Alston, Hinrich, (Brooks)
