Sometimes people are contrarian just to be contrarian. I've been through several of those days on this board. Europa is going through a prolonged one right now.
It'll pass.
He can't serious believe that centers the quality of Brook Lopez are available in the 2nd round of every draft. Can he?

Ayt wrote: So far, you have one example, which is Gasol. How many guys taken in the second round (or even anywhere out of the lottery), have played like him or Lopez as rookies in the last 5 years?
Marc Gasol
Al Jefferson (if you even want to count him as a C)
Anderson Varejao I guess could qualify.
Kendrick Perkins maybe?
Nenad Krystic for a year or two?
Brendan Haywood?
Samuel Dalembert for a year or two?
Jamaal Magloire for a few years?
That's the past 10 years and some of those guys are iffy as to being better than Lopez right now and one that is (Jefferson) I don't really consider a center, so Ayt makes a great point.

Re: 1/12: Woelfel: Conley deal waiting for Herb (poll added)
My take on Bogut vs Lopez is that Lopez has a monster body in his rookie year and Bogut didn't until year 3. That's just my theory on why Lopez can do what he has so far. As for the idea that we could get a guy that good easily, My question is why the hell haven't we in the last 3 years? Are we still waiting for Gadz to come good or do we like losing?

I think the previous regime had its head up its collective ass the past two years. It's my belief Hammond will be smarter (possibly much smarter) and we'll continue to see better moves than we saw the previous two years.

As a 20 (?) yo rookie center, Lopez is an elite shotblocker, a decent rebounder, and a versatile offensive player. These guys are usually found as D-League call ups so don't fear.

So the previous regime had their heads up their asses by not finding a "Lopez" type player, but Hammond didn't when he drafted Joe freaking Alexander over an actual player named Lopez?

Europa, you can't honestly think that finding a player of Lopez's caliber is easy. If that's the case Why the hell did we draft Bogut number one. We could have had "him" anywhere anytime. We should have traded the number one to NO for Paul and their second. With their second we could have drafted a Bogut.

For the record. I don't think anyone backing Lopez thinks he a superstar or someone worth building a team around. From Day 1, when I wanted the Bucks to draft him I compared him to this guy...

The size, skill, slowness, etc... are all there. Thus afr, I have to pat myself on the back for being spot on. That is Lopez's career path right there in front of you. If you don't think drafting Haislip rather than Big Z has set this franchise back, I don't know what to say.

I believe that finding a competent backup center shouldn't be that difficult. Maybe that center isn't as good as Lopez but he probably won't need to be. And if we're talking about Lopez playing alongside Bogut, then I think it would be even easier to find a quality PF. I just don't think passing on Brook Lopez is worth getting all worked up about. Yes it hurts the team presently but I don't believe it will hurt the team long term if Hammond does his job.
And again, I think Bogut's upside is considerably higher than Lopez's. That's why he went No. 1 in his draft and Lopez dropped all the way to 10th in his. You guys are acting like I'm the only one who had/has questions about Brook Lopez. The guy fell all the way to 10th in a draft that wasn't exactly overflowing with major stars - especially at the center position. There had to be a reason why so many teams passed on him so it's not like I'm the only one who had questions about him.

Adam specifically was talking about that before the draft in favor of Lopez.

Have you missed the posts where I've clearly acknowledged that was a mistake at the present time? I have stated it several times already.
So no, I wasn't "owned." I have been quite clear about the Alexander pick presently being a mistake (and currently a pretty big one) by Hammond.

So you're now citing the regime "with their heads up their asses" choosing someone #1 overall as solid evidence to his value? Nice.

Again, if Bogut is healthy he is not getting anymore than 10 minutes per game, you can't play the 2 together and Skiles sure as hell is not benching Bogut just because you can't see his talent. Why did the great Lopez last so long in this draft? I can promise you the Bucks would have gladly dealt that pick if anyone wanted Wilt....
