I know it is a few weeks away and he could be healed by then, but if Yao is unable to play in the All Star game. Does this free up a spot for Bynum on the squad, with Shaq being the starter and Bynum the back up?

Sure, it could happen. Normally, the League appoints replacements based on injury no-go's. If Bynum can continue his play he would most certainly be the 3rd best center in the West.

i assume the all-star bigs will be pau, shaq, dirk along with the already selected yao, amare, duncan. if any of them go down, i think al jefferson is next in line. may be even paul millsap and david west over bynum right now.

I appreciate all of your replies and answers, but dcash....you must not have understood my post.

Yao left the game with an injury.............if he is unable to go and being that he is the starting Center, does that move Shaq to the starting center and does it leave open the possibility of Bynum going in as the back up center. I never mentioned the PF spots ....only at Center. West, Milsap, Dirk, Pau, Duncan and Amare are not listed as Centers.

Duncan, Pau, and Amare can all play center if needed, though.

Ohhhh......no, no!! I understand that and know where you 2 are coming from, but they are not listed technically as Centers...........sooooo if Yao happens to be injured, that would make Shaq the starting center and I was wondering if they would add a back up Center (which would move Bynum in "maybe") or would they just go with who was origanally voted in and then just play with who was voted in by coaches regarless of position.

I'm almost 100% certain that position doesn't make any difference in regards to injury replacements. I believe Yao Ming was replaced by Carmelo Anthony a few years back. Hence, all the players cash listed, plus a few more, will be considered before Andrew.

Position doesnt make a difference... If someone gets injured, Stern picks the replacement and he usually goes with one of the next best available players, which in this case would be Al Jefferson or David West

I doubt if Yao got hurt, shaq would start. Duncan would likely slide to C, while maybe dirk takes his Forward spot.
