Wiz losing ways- feels right

Post#1 » by He Hate Me » Sat Jan 24, 2009 5:49 pm

I'm a big Wizards fan, so do not consider this an inflamatory "troll" topic. I just realized today after reading the article on the wiretap about "Losing taking toll on Wiz" that it's really not taking a toll on me. When I read that the wiz own the worst record in the eastern conference I wasn't surprised. It felt... right; like how old boston fans felt watching their team win a championship last season, or how Republican pundits berating their President must feel. Sometimes the glove just fits. As a Wizards fan I think I'm destined to count the losses and think about draft prospects in November. For a while I was getting comfy in the 1st round exit zone, but that was not a tease of winning ways, it was only an extension of the losing mentality. "We'll get to the playoffs and lose, that'll show'em were winners." By the way I don't blame our players, or our coach. I can't, we've had so many do the same thing over the years. And some are/were really good players, even great.

I believe the studio analyst word for what I'm saying is "losing culture" seems to follow the Wiz. (I really like Caron Butler and Jamison. They know their games, can take a challenge, and give effort each night. They know their limitations, and I think that is one of the most underrated aspects of a good-great player.)

Is anyone else unsurprised that we are the doormat of the east? I don't mean "well yeah, no Arenas and no Haywood, of course we weren't going to be very good." I mean, "yeah, just like the redskins, I don't trust the Wizards in any form to really win." That's kinda how I feel these days, and I'm at peace with it. Opinions?
I'm just trying to get into heaven, it's not like I'm gonna run for Jesus.

So, your argument is that the Wiz are losing this season because losing is our destiny?

Wizards fans are like dogs. If their master (the Wizards franchise) treats them like crap for years, then suddenly starts treating them well, the dogs will never be truly comfortable with the suddenly nice treatment. The dogs will always wait for the day their master reverts back to the horrible treatment.

Personally, I'd rather be 30-9 than 9-30 but that's just me.

Honestly dude, that was a depressing read and I hope I never get to the point you're at. I've long accepted that this is a lost season, but I'm by no means happy or nonchalant about it. I always want to the Wiz to do better.

I've seen every game but 1, I'd love to be 30-9 but I had to LOL at this post.

we are a developed aminu ak47 away from being contenders. Very good chance we will get our savior this draft when we technically would have had no chance with haywood and arenas. have to thank haywood for believing what i believe.
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

Definitely feels right, down right deserved after re-signing Arenas to that ridiculous contract this summer. I just hope it's not another Kwame Brown type of lottery draft this year.

Don't care about losing, because it was expected this year. It doesn't feel anything new either.

At the same time it doesn't change that I'm passionate about this team. I'm seriously pissed about the state of this franchise. It seems like we are hell bent on doing everything that is wrong.

This season for me feels like sh*t... I was hyped up b/c i thought we were going to be healthy this year... Then Gil and BH went down, I trully believed Caron and AJ could've hold down the fort...

Guess not....

I can't believe we suck this bad... 2 "All-Stars" and allot of talent of the bench but are 9-33.... Unbelievable...

We have much more talent than allot of teams in this league, even at this moment, but still we're a the worst in the East... Wow...

What makes it even worse, my best friends are Cavalier fans and my fiancee is an Spurs fan so I get to hear the same BS every other night... It's depressing.... Every time I bring up the injury excuse they say I'm bitter...

Oh well... I really love this team, so I'll support this team in the Good and the Bad times...

We have hope. This is not the late 90s where we're trading Webber for Richmond.

If Grunfeld has a **** clue he'll trade Jamison/Blatche for Stoudemire. They'd do that......

Blatche has talent, but the kid is fool's gold. If there is one thing I learned from Kwame Brown, it's give a kid 3 years and you'll see what you are going to get. This was not a Jermaine O'Neal situation riding the bench. Both of these kids have gotten minutes.

Trade Jamison/Blatche for Stoudemire. Trade Butler for Marion...........then we have a team next year. If not we'll watch Jamison wither quickly.

Nash, Marion and Amare didnt get it done....why would they here with Arenas instead of Nash?

I'd trade AJ and Blatche for Amare no doubt, but Blatche is 10x the player Kwame is/was/will be.

don't feel right to me at all

that said, it's become what's expected on a nightly basis

the one ray of hope I have is that we've been in a LOT of
games in the 4thQ and with Gil, a fair number, as opposed
to say almost none, of those games would be wins.

We just better get lucky in the lotto.

I have to admit, being a sports fan in DC is a rough thing. The Caps getting Ovechkin (and the Wiz getting Arenas, at the beginning at least) felt like some sort of miracle. After years of ALL of the franchises sucking simultaneously and constantly getting bad breaks, be they pure luck (who knew that Kwame was going to have the strength of will of Spongebob Squarepants) or pure incompetence (Bruce Smith? Deion? Jagr? Webber? Howard? Sheed?)

I fully expect that we a) won't get the first pick, and b) will draft someone that's going to end up being a disappointment. If we get a decent player out of our top-4 pick i'll be ecstatic. I have no real hope that we'll pick "the right guy" whoever that may be. I have no hope that we're not going to hire Wes Jr, and will pass on hiring the Czar, Avery Johnson, Silas, or whichever coach with a good track record that's potentially interested in the job.

Our organizational blood is thin, at best. We're weak at player development (outside of the miraculous work that Hopla did last year), our coaching and medical staffs are populated by stiffs and Dr. Nick, and our GM hasn't hit a home run since punting our last major mistake to the curb. Agh.

I still watch, though. It's the visual equivalent of a Cistercian monk beating himself with birch branches, I guess. Penance!

Although I'd never say that losing feels right, I've come to the point where the losses don't really bother me anymore. As Jim said, its to be expected this year. The Wizards are what they are...a very bad team.

Unfortunately, while I can accept and expect losing, I'm still bothered by what I see on the court. Watching Butler and Jamison log heavy minutes for a lost cause is just infuriating. But at the same time, when the young guys do play, I usually leave the game disappointed that they didn't play better. The only player that is meeting my expectations or even exceeding them this year is McGuire. I expected both Blatche and Young to be better than they are, and that is both disappointing and worrisome for our future.

With that said, I still have hope for next year. Getting Haywood and Gil back will be huge. Getting a high draft pick could also do wonders for the franchise, whether its landing Blake Griffin or giving us another chip to move some players for a tough big man and/or a starting caliber SG that this team desperately needs. I haven't lost hope. The curse of le boulez will someday be lifted...I just hope its in my lifetime.

After thinking more and more about the draft, it could work out OK
even if we didn't get the #1#1. Night after night it's our guards who
get outplayed. Getting a Harden or Holliday would help a lot, along
with a healthy Hibachi.

That said, we should take Griffen and smile should that opportunity
present itself.
