Shots at the buzzer

Post#1 » by Cleveland Fan » Sat Jan 24, 2009 5:23 pm

Now that LBJ has hit a game winner at the buzzer, can't believe it took so long. It is a sign of things to come. I predict this is going to be the normal. In this situation his game winners will hit more than he misses. He will hit a few in the play-offs, maybe even in the finals. Just a fans hope, but I really believe this is a sign of things to come.

LeBron has had a ton of game winners, they just weren't as the buzzer sounded. That is a very limited group of shots to be concerned about. Or for that matter to actually want to happen.

Normally if you are hitting buzzer beaters you either
1.) Just got scored on and dont have time to really work a play and have to hoist quick
or
2.) Took to long to get a shot off and potentially cost yourself offensive rebounding opportunities, or if you missed, fouling to get the ball back.

Buzzer beaters although cool, arent the ideal type of game-winner.

How many times with Lebron have the CAV'S had the ball with less than 24 seconds left in the game, losing, & they run the clock down, he takes the shot & missed? I'am just saying in this situation we are going to see it be victory's from now on.

LeBron doesn't ordinarily do buzzer beaters (although he's taken a few). He normally gets the basket (very much like in the playoff games against Washington) with a few seconds left on the clock. Ergo, it's not a buzzer beater. The Buzzer beaters have been primarily drive and kick out to Damon, Donyell etc.

i was starting to think there was going to be no buzzer beaters this season for lebron...it out of we lose or we blow the opposing team out or lebron/cavs score before the buzzer...now he done it and it felt good!!

I'm glad we played a close game and won it. We really hadn't had many games where we really needed to be efficient at the end. We were kinda lucky yesterday (uh, Wallace hitting a 20 ft jump shot? Are you kidding me?). But we needed a game that we had to gut out. Especially since GSW kept getting to the free throw line.

I think LeBron missed a buzzer beater this year that would have won us the game at Chicago.

He missed a buzzer beater, but it didn't lose the game. We lost it in overtime.

Here are some game winning shots by LeBron that I can think of on the top of my head... I feel like I am missing some.

- The game was tied. LeBron hit a mid range jumper over Jumaine Jones against Charlotte at home in the 2005-2006 season. I think it was in overtime as well. I'm not so sure.
- Game was tied again. Same season (05-06), another mid range jump shot against New Orleans (or was it Oklahoma City?) at their homecourt. Quieted the home crowd.
- I believe we were down 1? LeBron made a game winning layup last season against Portland at their home floor. We won that game by 1. Sick stuff.
- And of course, the one yesterday against Golden State. LeBron made that over Ronny Turiaf. That one is my favorite so far.

Those were just in the regular season.. Let's see in the playoffs.

- Game winner against Washington in game 4... The one where LeBron did his crab dribble..
- We were down 1 at home. LeBron made a game winning layup during overtime in game 5. Another sick one, LeBron just made it look easy.
- Game was tied in OT. Another game winning layup against Detroit in the ECF where LeBron scored 29 of the Cavs' last 30 points. Historical performance.

We often talk about about the good things that LeBron does, it's others that profess that LeBron hasn't hit any buzzer beaters. Heck they are the ones that don't seem to realize that LeBron is the single best crunch time player in the game (look at the stats).
