Funny, I just participated in an argument about this on another board. Now I am not saying that Al is most definitely better than Amare but they were pissing me off by trashing Al, here is how some of it went.

The Amare who gives even 1/67th of a **** is better than Big Al, yes. It's really too bad right now he's acting like the Suns are a lottery team and he can just stop caring halfway through the season.

I'm pretty sure that back when Amare did care Al Jefferson busted his ass to the tune of a career high 39 points and 15 rebounds. I'm pretty sure that one of the main reasons why the Suns traded for Shaq was because guys like Al Jefferson were taking Amare to the woodshed night in and night out and molesting him. And for those who say Al only has good numbers because he is on a bad team...

Every team every night knows the wolves are (were) crap and Al Jefferson. Every night he has (had) to face double and triple teams. All teams had to do was shut him down and he still got his 20 and 11. Imagine what he could do if he got one on one looks all game long?

I think Al will be better in the near future so I wouldn't trade him for Amare, but at the moment I'd still give slight edge to Amare. About equal defensively, but on offense Amare is a stronger finisher and his jumper is quite wet.

I dunno, Amare tends to disappear for long stretches and has a limited post game. I'd would say with a point guard like Steve Nash, Amare is a better fit, but in a half court oriented offense (the type of offense that wins chapionships) Al is a better fit.

I'm not sure, obviously playing off of Shaq helps things a lot but let's not forget that Amare was averaging 27 ppg last year on 57% shooting. Not to mention that he's leagues better at drawing fouls, and he's just way more efficient offensively then Al Jefferson is. Now, as a rebounder Al definitely has the upper hand IMO. As a passer, Stoudemire has the upper hand by a slight margin, and defensively they are pretty equal.

I honestly could hear an argument for either player, but I think Amare has the slight edge.

Big Al is better cause he stays in the low post where he belongs and Amare is falling in love with his jumper
