Terry Porter fired!
Friend just called me up and told me the news, he wouldn't tell me where he got the information but he is saying Terry Porter has been fired and Alvin Gentry will be the headcoach until they find a replacement.
He mentioned that Porter most likely will coach these last two road games against the Hawks and Wizards and than Gentry will take over once the Suns return to Phoenix. He said Gentry could easily be coaching tommorow though so I guess we'll wait and see.
Anyway audios Porter

Eh if he won't tell you where he got it then it can't be confirmed, and until it's confirmed, Terry Porter is the coach of the Phoenix Suns

If they fired him why would they let him coach the last 2 road games??? Even though I would be smitten by this decision, please get a reliable source before posting something like this.

Re: Terry Porter fired!
He said something along the lines of Porter, is either going to be fired before Sundays game or he will be after the roadtrip but you guys are right he could be making it up. He knew a trade was going to happen around the time the Suns traded Bell & Diaw for J-Rich though.

Re: Terry Porter fired!
As much as I would I love this for the team to fire him (though as a person I feel bad as I am sure he is a good guy, just a horrible match for the team) I will believe it when I see it. I don't want my hopes up to be only be dashed. The only way I can see that he was fired, was a Penny Hardaway type make the team go to management vs the coach. If they fire him, it more than means that Amare will be around for some time.
DB, you got anything?

This thread title pissed me off.
It should be edited, and this post should be locked until it ends up happening, if it happens at all.

Re: Terry Porter fired!
As has been said before, I think that Kerr/Sarver would let the team finish 30-52 befoore admitting Porter was a mistake.

Re: Terry Porter fired!
easy solution... Fire Porter and hire Paul Silas and hire Mark Ivaroni... Well, thats if Sarver and Kerr really want to win...

Re: Terry Porter fired!
Ray ray,
It's Amare Stoudemire.
All,
If a coaching change happens, it happens. Frankly I am sick of all of this bitching and moaning about Porter. Perhaps most here have short term memories, but this was the exact same complaining everyone was doing about Mike before he walked away.
Understand this about NBA coaches. Their job does not end on the court, what we see of them as a coach on nationally telivised games is only a small sliver of what one could consider the body of their work. You don't see the practices, you don't see the melodrama of managing a group of largely overpaid kids (not that the current Suns fall into that category), you can't see the offense the coach wants his team to run or the defense that the teams fails to execute.
There is so much we don't see save for the team record and a few sound bytes. This teams' main flaw has been, and for the forseeable future will continue to be, poor defense. It has been borne out of the type of players that we have on the team and, in my opinion, is not something that can be overcome with coaching. It has to start with the players.

Good post. I'm not particularly a fan of Porter, and I knew he'd be a downgrade over D'Antoni, but what do you guys really expect? When you lose the 4th-best coach in the league (Pop, Jax, Sloan), your coaching is going to get worse. I think Porter's an okay coach, although some of the quotes from Nash make me think he may have lost the team. (If he has lost the team, then he needs to be fired ASAP, but none of us can know for sure from what we see in public.)
In any case, how is Porter's hypothetical replacement going to magically fix all that's wrong? All the same problems will still be there. Gentry might be able to do a little better job, but no one's going to wave a magic wand and make the team play better D or rebound better. And no one can build the team around both Shaq and Amare simultaneously, and that's the biggest problem. Neither one will be happy unless he's The Man. If a new coach features Amare, his attitude and play will probably pick up, but Shaq will start bitching.

I think the backseat modding needs to stop.
Dude just posted what he heard. I think what we all can agree on however is that the title of the topic needs to be changed.

It's not back seat modding, it's frustration triggered by idiotic posts. Agreed, though, that the topic NEEDS to change. Every time I come to the site, I think this is a new thread, and get excited, just to find out when I open it that it's this useless one.
