Jan. 25: Phoenix @ Atlanta

Post#1 » by JoshB914 » Sun Jan 25, 2009 9:08 pm

If we can continue to string wins together even while shorthanded I think it could really show the team what they're capable of, and bring this team together.

Hopefully Joe finds his shot tonight, too.

Atlanta favored to win by 4 points.

Phoenix will look to bounce back from the poor performance against Charlotte.

Nice to see Joe is on pace for another 4-15 shooting night.

JJ and Bibby can't make anything. Hard to win when they are a combined 7-30.

Joe lost this game for us. I don't know what is wrong with him but he has been hurting the team lately.

I wouldn't put it just on Joe. He shot horribly and turned the ball over too much, but 13 assists, 6 steals, and 5 rebounds are really good numbers.

JJ has to play better than that for us to beat a good team. he missed some easy layups and had some dumb turnovers.

I can't blame Smith for forcing a few shots in the end considering how bad JJ and Bibby were.

He doesn't have to. If Bibby had a decent night we could have won. I'm just saying Joe wasn't the only one that didn't step up.

Bibby is a shooter. He is going to have bad nights and this won't be the last one.

Joe is our star. He has to step up down the stretch and lately he hasn't done that.

What about sitting J. Smith for 82 games ? It's 4th quarter, 18 secs on the clock, he's on the perimeter by the 3 point line, guess what ? There he comes with that super efficient jump shot. Next play, fast break, he cathes the ball, and with brilliant ball handling skills, he turns it over. Oh, he wasn't satisfied. Nash and Stoudamire come for a pick and roll, he's right there to foul the Suns PF for a 3 point play. Dude can't execute anything but his dumb plays. Now, Bibby was horrible, worse than him only M. Woodson to let him in the game for so long. JJ, you know I love your game stud, but that lay up you missed, that hurt deep. Mo had a good game. Marvin, was he playing ? Zaza, Solo ? You don't even deserve a comment.

Smith had 19/12 shooting 50%. Bibby and JJ combined to shoot 22%. their inability to do anything is probably what led Smith to force things late in the game.

So far this month JJ is averaging 17 ppg shooting 35%. This is probably the worst month he has had since he has been here.

I love that Skyhawk can ALWAYS come up with a reason to blame a loss on Josh and from there, extrapolate that he shouldn't even play.

I'll say this about that game: how often do the Hawks lose when they outrebound their opponents, shoot 80% from the foul line, AND have fewer turnovers? This has gotta be the first time, I think its a sign of growth frankly.

I think this one just comes down to guys not hitting jumpers. People like to talk about "living and dying" by the jump shot but after a point, harping on that gets kind of (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Every team in the league HAS to be able to hit jump shots, whether they have Lebron James or a premier post player, the jump shot is essential to scoring points. Tonight, our best jump shooters weren't hitting their jump shots. Joe has been off lately and Bibby just had a bad night.

You certainly can place blame on Bibby, "shooter" or no, when you go 2-13, you hurt the team because you are taking away shot attempts from players who might be more accurate. Joe needs to get it together or get some rest. Maybe do what PHX had been doing with Nash and Shaq and take a night off every once in a while.

As far as getting beat by tough bigs and quick guards. Shaq had a good game against us but realize that he went 19 and 11 in 39 minutes and his per40 averages this season are something like 24 and 12. He played more minutes than usual because this was a buzzer to buzzer game with, to my recollection, no double digit leads. Barbosa couldn't miss from deep. It seemed like every time they needed a boost, he nailed a trey.

Woody deserves a little bit of the blame for not adjusting very well but I don't blame him too much for not having the cajones to sit guys of Bibby and Joe's pedigree in the fourth for journeymen like Evans and Murray even if they were more effective.

Come on now. We know he is about MUCH more than just his jump shot. He's going to be an All Star again for a reason.
