Re: C's have verbal commitment to Marbury?
President Donnie Walsh may wait until after their final meeting with Boston, Feb. 6 at the Garden, though the teams could meet in the first round.
Marbury, who returned from training in Los Angeles last week, said he also wonders if Walsh will not act until March 2, when Marbury would be ineligible for a playoff roster. The chances of trading Marbury at the Feb. 19 deadline are beyond slim.
"It shouldn't matter that I go to Boston if you're the eighth seed and Boston is in the front," Marbury said. "It can't be about money. The Knicks got plenty of it. It's got to be personal. If it's personal, then how is business being done there?"
Marbury's basketball career is still dormant. Two weeks ago, after getting a commitment from the Celtics, he put his $1 million giveback onto the table again, saying he would make up the money with his next team.
The Knicks already have paid half of the $21 million he's owed this season. Marbury said he also would be willing to drop his appeal on the $400,000 fine he incurred for allegedly refusing to play Thanksgiving Eve in Detroit.
Marbury said an arbitration hearing is to be held in February.
"It's none of their business what I do when I get out of my deal," Marbury said. "They say they don't want to pay me all my money, but they'll be paying me all my money anyway."
Marbury said last weekend Players Association attorney Hal Biagas was told by Walsh the matter was in James Dolan's hands. WFAN's Mike Francesa has said on the air Dolan told him he would accept a $2 million savings on the rest of Marbury's contract. The Knicks say Dolan doesn't recall saying that.
"Mr. Dolan says it's up to Donnie Walsh," Marbury said. "Walsh told us he's got to run it through Mr. Dolan. It's kids games. Like Barack Obama said, let's put away those childish acts."
Is this for real?

Re: C's have verbal commitment to Marbury?
This is Marbury actually making sense which is scary in itself.
This is Dolan not Walsh, who has actually given Marbs the chance to talk to other teams to better understand his options. The no "Marbury return to the Garden" concept makes a ton of sense and obviously Dolan would like Marbs to kick in the extra mil.
Marbury is finally making the key points that is going to turn this on the Knicks and more importantly Dolan. If you aren't trying to trade him and you aren't playing him it is actually bad business to keep him on the roster.
The Knicks are down to 11 active roster spots, with James joining Marbs, Curry and Mobley on the shelf, so any money you save to free up that roster spot is good business expecially when it is twice the cash value. It also just sends the wrong message, how can you expect the fans and team itself to buy into the idea of trying to make the playoffs when you are still dressing Jerome James to fill the roster minimum over this nonsense.
That said I just have no idea were I am at on the idea of bringing this guy in.

I wouldnt believe anything that comes out of Marburys mouth. I wouldnt mind him on the team although I have enjoyed Gabe Pruitt.

Re: C's have verbal commitment to Marbury?
As far as Boston goes they are looking for a veteran big that can score and defend, which is basketball's left handed pitching, they are also looking to upgrade their guard rotation.
I think they were focused on Mourning who has called it a day, I think that came right after the Heat got blasted by Boston. He doesn't want to be a ring a chaser and he can't help the Heat against the likes of Boston and CLE.
I don't think that they can get a big who can do both score and defend. Their faith in Scal is somewhat justified so they are not going to look to simply upgrade him and Baby is also giving them something. If Joe Smith gets cut loose that is at least interesting but I don't know that this will be his first choice. Maybe Marbury frees up enough assets for a trade but not likely. I don't know if there will be something better than POB available.

I wonder if the league would get all high and mighty if Boston traded Giddens to OKC for a 2nd rounder and they waived Joe Smith to open up a roster spot?
In the end we can't get a 1st for Giddens and they likely can't get one for Joe Smith without taking on money.

Re: C's have verbal commitment to Marbury?
I tend to believe Danny has made up his mind if Star is available he is the Point we will add to this team. The Knicks don't like it and will do their best to keep this from happening. This is a players vs league problem that I think will get worked out with us getting Star before the deadline. Just a gut feeling. Now for the big man.

Re: C's have verbal commitment to Marbury?
And the plot continues....
I'm tellin ya, it is just like last year. We all knew sam cassel was going to come here. ESPNEWS would report the interest, and so on. We also needed a big man though, and after a long time speculating, Ainge signed PJ first, then Cassel. Same thing will happen, Ainge will get his big man, who will suit this team, then when Starbury is bought out, he will come here too.
The only difference is this year, someone will need to be shipped out of boston in order for this to happen.

I think OKC accepts a Boston 1st and Scal for Joe Smith. Smith is expiring so that late first rounder would make up the difference.

I'm not sure the Celtics are in a big rush to trade Scal for Joe Smith. I really think that the Celtics value Scal pretty highly, especially Doc.

Re: C's have verbal commitment to Marbury?
I hope Marbury comes....he is one of the important pieces for our Championship run...
By now it is clear that maybe Cleveland is capable of beating us, but I think they just dont have enough firepower.
On the other side Lakers are really a team to beat...and to do that we must upgrade our bench, Marbury would be a great piece
MARBURY
HOUSE
???
SCAL/POWE
???/DAVIS
If Baby continues to hit that mid rande jumper Im happy with him at C.

No they won't. First of all they would be paying 3.5 mil for a late first round draft pick beyond that we don't even have a first round draft pick so we would have trade them '11 draft pick and no way in hell Ainge is going to do that, the music may have already stopped by then. It also doesn't matter because Scal doesn't make enough money alone to make that deal so it would have to be Giddens and Scal.

Re: C's have verbal commitment to Marbury?
The more I think about the more I feel the Cs needs Marbury for the play-offs. Right now I think Eddie House feels more comfortable as the backup SG. The Cs can't depend on Gabe to be their back-up options at PG come play-off time. So the fact that the Cs have offered a contract too Marbury is not surprising to me.
