OT: Gift Idea

Post#1 » by MaxRider » Mon Jan 26, 2009 6:57 pm

Guys, I need some help on gift idea for newly born babies. My sister twins (a boy and a girl) and one of my best female friends baby boy. All due sometime in April. I have no idea what to get. I have lots of relatives, so my sister will get lots of gifts. I want something unique for her so I wont get something duplicated of others. Usually I just give babies r us gift card. But this time it's my sister and a close friend, so I want something special.

You're on realgm, so in keeping with theme, Rockets baby warmup suit with attached booties. If you want to ENSURE it's unique, get it kinda big so it fits when he grows out of whoever gave him the small newborn one.

I suggest asking what your friend and your sister really needs, especially if its out of the price range of most people in this particularly dire economy.

I don't know the targets economics background, but this is what happened at the last baby shower I went to:

Two friends of mine were having a kid. They didn't have much money. None of us did really at the time. One of my homeboys was a carpenter, so a couple of my friends went to his shop to help saw, sand, etc and they came back with a beautiful crib.

I built the mom a computer from parts lying around so she had something to use when she went back to school. Then I ran a cable to the baby room for a web cam and a made an audio only baby monitor using some old walkie talkies I found at the Good Will. Use the carpenters place to build a lil box with holes to put all the electronics in and the batteries could be changed with ease.

My wife went with the bare essentials (she's from poor, so she was expecting 10 quilts, silly baby toys but no one would bring anything practical). We got diapers, lots of them, and wipes. Someone else was tasked to hunt for cheap baby clothes. I ended up learning how to knit socks and gave my second hand knitting needles to the new mom as well.

Yeah happy times :)

hey, isn't it the Chinese year of the ox? (think I saw Wade plugging this on some ad)

You could get your sister's kids something to do with that.
