Will Danny Make All-Star Team?

Post#1 » by APerna » Mon Jan 26, 2009 7:14 pm

We all feel the same way, Danny should without-a-doubt be a member of the Eastern reserves.

The bench will be announced on Thursday, so we have some time until then to decide whether or not the Eastern coaches will give him the honor.

Reggie Miller has said that Danny shouldn't be, but a number of pundits (from ESPN, CBS, Yahoo and even RealGM) believe he deserves to make it.

Will they vote him in, or won't they?

I think they'll vote him in. You hear opposing coaches rave about Granger after they play the Pacers, and seeing as how the voting is in their hands, I feel pretty confident that he will be on the roster. I dont really feel anyone thinks the Pacers are as bad as their record indicates either, which kind of nullifies the "good player on a bad team" argument. Wins over Boston, LAL, sweeping Houston, winning at Phoenix, I think we are one of the better "bad" teams. He gets in.

I think he is definitely going to make the all star team. Not only does he deserve it, but he is being hyped up so much this year by sports analysts everywhere and the controversy of him not making it will look bad on the NBA.

I personally hope he goes on a 1 man three point contest in the all star game mixed in with a couple flashy dunk, that would b great.

No doubt in my mind that he should be in. And i personally think he will. I heard Larry Bird has send out a booklet about Granger and what he means to the Pacers to coaches around the league. Pacers are doing their part to help other teams know what he is all about and i think teams will respect Bird's views. It's not like he does this every season with some player. And like cdash said, coaches rave about Granger almost after every game. He is respected and i think he will get in with no problems.

The issue is that he'll have to make it over a number of forwards on better teams.

I'm JUST throwing names out here:

Paul Pierce
Hedo Turkoglu
Andre Iguodala
Josh Smith

i think granger deserves to be on the allstar team, but i would def take hedo off that list and add rashard lewis instead, my guess would be garnett, james, pierce, granger, lewis as the forwards with bosh listed as a center again..but thats me (feel like im leaving someone off)

Josh Smith has absolutely no business being in the All-Star game. He hasn't played all that well this year. Pierce probably deserves to be there. Iguodala is on a mildy disappointing team, and he struggled up until recently. I agree with magicman, Lewis deserves to be mentioned over Hedo, but I think Granger is a superior all-around player.

All the coaches and the writers say Granger will be a reserve. I think that he has, statistically, a 85% chance.

You are right, I was just throwing names out.

Oh I know, but since you went through the trouble of listing some other names, for argument's sake I discussed it.

None of those players deserve it over Granger. He'll make it.

Hedo was beating out Granger in the popular vote, by far.

But it's okay, because the coaches know who's actually going to get that spot.

JJ Redick.

He gets in. You just can't deny the stats he's putting up and the rate at which he's doing it.

I know coaches are usually hesitant with players on bad teams, but Granger has to be an exception.

I'd be surprised if he's not.

Coaches vote for the reserves, right? If so, I think he'll be a shoe-in! They gush over how good Danny's getting, and how much of a headache it is to gameplan for him. And now that he's hit a few clutch shots, and is somewhat of an "Old School" player (see hoopshype.com, great piece about Danny by former Pacer Eddie Johnson), I think a lot of bball purists, a list that includes most coaches, love his game, his demeanor, and his grit.

He'll be in Phoenix, hopefully winning the 3-pt contest over Kapono. I really don't want him to win another one.

Yeah, coaches vote for the all-stars. I can't wait til they air it on TNT Thursday night. Their motto is, "drama lives here"... is totally right.

As for the Eddie Johnson article, agreed, it was a great peice. Here's the link to anyone who hasn't seen it-
