Re: Brook Lopez looking like a steal
Lopez should get 12-18 touches in the POST. NOT Pick and Roll. IN THE POST.
That dribble and drive should be used when you want to switch the offensive set to throw the Defense off. Lopez should touch the ball every possession. NO EXCUSES.
Once Lopez gets comfortable in the post imagine the doubles and he kicks it out or passes to:
Yi - Jumper or Slashing
Hayes - 3 pt
Anderson - 3 pt
Harris - Jumper or Slashing
Dooling - Jumper or slashing
VC - Jumper
Simmons - 3 pt
All this Dribble and Drive, is nice to watch if you love the Harlem Globtrotters. Stop the BS, FRANK. We have been waiting for this type of player since we got smacked around by SHaq and Duncan.
STOP THE **** ****!!!!!!!!

no slashing for VC?
He is getting lazy. He is settling with jumpers. The other day the other team was in the penalty early. VC kept taking jumpers. I think the team was over the limit with 8 min. left in the quater.
Can you see VC with an entry pass to Lopez in the post then VC runs along the baseline for a dunk or layup? The only person that does that with Lopez is Dooling. I blame Frank for this too.

I was yelling at my TV the rest of that quarter. "Take it to the rim! Draw contact!"
Opie ran very few plays for VC and they were mainly high screens that resulted in jumpers.
These are the times when VC aggravates me as well.
I know he doesn't want to start making waves, but these are the situations when he has to say F-it and "call an audible", no matter what garbage clock killing, same old same, that Opie is calling for.

Re: Brook Lopez looking like a steal
I wish Stromile were playing more but I've been impressed by Lopez. He seems like a keeper. I think he should probably be playing more. He's under 30 minutes.
I've been especially impressed by his defense. His blocks + steals to turnover ratio is positive, and from what I've been able to see him he was pretty effective defensively.
He's not the quickest but he provides decent defensive presence.
He seems to lack versatility on offense at this point, but he needs touches so he can continue to figure out new ways to attack the opposition.

Re: Brook Lopez looking like a steal
Brook Lopez is 5th in the league in blocks.
Not bad for a rookie whose main concerns predraft included his ability to play defense.
It's especially sweet because not only can he block off help side, but he is a very good man to man defender in the post.

5th in blocks? That is really impressive.
Generally I think that quicker, more athletic players are better help shot blockers and better team defenders, while bigger players like Lopez are better 1 on 1 defenders. Lopez has been pretty effective at help defense too, though, I agree.

Re: Brook Lopez looking like a steal
Arguably the best power forward of all time on our rookie:
“I like him,” Duncan said. “I thought he was solid. Obviously, he had a tough end to the game, when he missed that layup, but he was solid. He didn’t try to do anything outside of himself. He seemed like he was setting his feet and he shot the ball pretty well. Good footwork, just a solid big. I think he’ll be good for them.”

That's nice and all, but I was slightly disappointed in his performance against the Spurs.

Solid is not as good as special.
Whenever I hear a player described as solid I know that player is second tier at best, perhaps even lower. Duncan is a great player... for him to say someone else is 'solid' means to me that the other player is a player that Duncan can dominate...
By saying that Lopez was solid, I think Duncan was also saying that Lopez was good, but not good enough to be a real threat.

Stop it!
What do you want Duncan to say?
"Hi, this is Tim Duncan and I would just like to let all you kids out there know that I think Brook Lopez is sex manifested in post game. He will be the GOAT and I am going to invest all my cheese in Brook Lopez rookie cards and one day when I'm old and impotent, maybe in 4 years, I'll be rich. You hear me?! Rich!!! Did I mention I think he's sexy?"

Re: Brook Lopez looking like a steal
You guys got a nice bigman in Brook. I can't believe the Bobcats passed on him in the draft. I know they have Okafor but Lopez should have been a no brainer due to their lack of bigs. PG and C are set for you guys for the next 8-10 yrs. CDR was a good late pick up also. The only question mark would be Yi. How is his development?

Yea... "SOLID" is a great description of Brook.
No knock on him because he can eventually become great. Duncan aka "the Big Fundamental" was being sincere about Brook's progress. The man still has frequent off nights but at this point Brook is more proven than most young bigs. He's huge, physically and mentally strong, AND he's a rook....he will get his in due time.

Dude..I'd rather have a solid education than a "special education".

He played Duncan well...his comments are fine...at this point, he's not gonna give the rookie anymore credit than that...and TD shouldnt have to with what he has accomplished...
