Free Agency: Andre Miller?

Post#1 » by slinky » Tue Jan 27, 2009 4:04 am

What does everyone think about Andre Miller and his fit with the Wolves next season? What is his status for next year? I know he is expiring but is he likely to come back to the sixers next year?

I have been watching a little bit of Marvin Williams the past few weeks, and while his potential is intriguing, he may be slightly redundant given what we already have(as was stated in another thread).

I was thinking I may be more in favor of keeping Mike Miller and signing Andre Miller. I havent seen him play more than 3 or 4 times this year, but he seems to be a terrell brandon like player for our young basketball team. A strong veteran player, who distributes, plays solid defense, and hits the open jump shot.

With that said, I dont know how much he will cost next year, but i do think that he would be a more useful piece than Marvin Williams.

Wow, this is very intriguing. I like Andre Miller running the point for us next season. We would be a great transition team with his court vision and he is one of the best at throwing the oop.

Man, I am liking this idea a lot..too bad he's 33 and might want some contract that none of us would be happy with.

Miller
Jefferson
Jefferson
Miller
Miller

opponent coach: " you go defend miller, box him out"
player: which miller?
coach: Miller the guard!
playerA: which miller the guard?
ref: 20 sec timeout over!
PlayerB: coach we wasted a timeout and we dont even know whos on who, so who am I on? quick answer please!
Coach: you are on Jefferson
player B: %#(&*@@(@^#$%&#*

*****
next play"
Announcer: The pistons for some reason triple teamed Mike Miller and double teamed Richard Jefferson, allowing Andre miller to lob an alley-oop to Al Jefferson with nobody within 10 melers of them. Brad Miller was tying his shoes and missed the dunk...........

next day: Coach Michael curry is fired for using his 5 players double and triple team 2 players to give the wolves game winning alley oop

..........and that happens in every other NBA team.......

You'd have to put me on suicide watch, but both Millers and Richard Jefferson are all on the trading block.

I would have loved to get Dre when he was in his prime but his best days have already past. As a previous poster already noted he is 33 years old and won't really fit into the youth movement on this team. Personally I am excited about the progress that Bassy has displayed so far this season. He's been taking care of the ball and his jump shot has been coming around as well.

If we're going to sign a point guard it had better be an elite player, not someone that is marginally better than what we already have. Let's use one of draft picks this year to snag a good point guard prospect from the deep talent pool.

Just say NO to Richard Jefferson. He's overrated and not that good without Kidd throwing him gifts.

Makes very little sense to waste the amount of money it would take to sign the 33 year old point guard. His style doesn't fit our team, and his agecontract/potential/fit doesn't fit where we're going. We need BUILDING BLOCKS, not final pieces. Andre Miller is WAY passed building block stage.

I have always liked Miller. I would have loved for us to draft him when we had the chance. If only Allan Houston hadn't made that shot to help the Knicks get to the finals he likely would've been traded for Brandon and it would've made perfect sense at the time. Of course that is revisionist history.

I think he'd be a great addition to the team, but at the same time I'd rather invest in a younger long term PG. I agree with DaKidKG that Bassy has improved a lot. Not sure if he's the long term fit, but worst case he'd be a great backup.

I think Andre Miller is really under-rated by many posters on the trade boards, and he's having a really good season. I worry about the age, but the skill-set is a nice fit. He used to be offered in trades by PHI fans a lot, but lately they have been liking him so much that I think they'll probably keep him, and it wouldn't be cost-effective for us to outbid him. Its kind of worthless to say it, but this is exactly the type of guy I'd like on my team if we could get him at bargain prices.

hahahahaha and now imagine how Shrink would feel watching our games or creating trade ideas. poor guy :D

I'd love to have Miller on our team BUT only as a veteran back up for a small contract, which he wouldn't sign though. he'd prefer a ring and/or a big contract... but who knows, maybe we can give him the former if he signs here? ;)

Just because we have cap does not mean we need to use it. Wait and perhaps a trade or another signing.

Miller would be nice in his prime, but not a good sign at this stage. Personally, I am hoping our exp+picks could turn into a disgruntled stud.

Agree. I'd like him here on a short, inexpensive contract as a vet leader. It will be an interesting offseason with the economic situation and all. I suspect a lot of players are going to have eye-opening experiences with this free agency. Miller (at 33) is just the type of player that will get much less than he is asking, I think.

I think Bassy has a solid 20+min role next year. Whether that is as a starter with a young Jrue Holiday learning, or if it is as a backup to a Miller. Bassy has played well enough to be part of the long term plan. He is still young and is improving.

Telfair's assists are down, his turnovers are up, his field goal percentage is way down. I guess on the positive side his 3pt percentage is up. Long term, I have hard time seeing Telfair as guy who gets anything more than spot playing time.

I'd have no problem signing Miller. I don't get why everyone is so attached to the youth movement. Who wrote the book that said everyone on a team has to be the same age? Eventually, if you want to get out of the rebuilding phase we're going to have to add veterans with playoff experience. If all our players peak at the same time, then they also decline at the same time, meaning eventually we'd be stuck in another long rebuilding phase. I say look at what a team like Utah has done. Although they haven't won a championship, their mix of youth and veterans has led to continued success from the Malone days until now.

I have no problem giving Telfair 20 + minutes next year, as long as he stops shooting so dang much. He should never shoot from past 20 feet unless the shot clock is about to expire.

If we don't land a top flight PG in the draft, I'm also all for signing Sessions to a deal next year.

you don't think it is like that because he actually has to share the ball now with Foye? plus we have Miller and when he was healthy also Vaudeville that could do the occasional pass. I'm not surprised about his assists being down. the other ones sure aren't good to see though.

but from watching the latest games it seems like he slightly improved his FG%... or at least it seemed like that. not sure if it is true though.

I'd be fine with getting Miller as long as it's a decent/short contract. We could use a vet, especially a vet-PG and he'd be perfect for the job I'd think. He's also a big bodied PG which would work well with Foye. The problem is he'll probably want more money than we're willing to offer, it's cold in Minnesota, he most likely wants to stay in Philly, etc. Realistically, I don't see us acquiring him in free agency but if we did get him on about a 2 year contract that's pretty cheap I'd be happy.
