We were offered Felton for TJ Ford? (tinsley news as well)

Felton is a talented point guard, but he doesn't fit the pass-first mold that Larry Brown wants in his point guards. With rookie D.J. Augustin looking like the point guard of the future in Charlotte, the chances Felton heads somewhere else are pretty high.

The Bobcats would like to get something for him before he hits restricted free agency this summer and have been shopping him since before the 2008 draft. They tried to swap Felton for T.J. Ford twice in June -- once with the Raptors and once with the Pacers. More recently, they almost had a deal completed with Dallas a few weeks ago, but an Augustin abdominal strain forced them to pull back. With Augustin feeling better and nearing a return, the Bobcats could be ready to pull the trigger again.

If so, GOOD for us. I love the fact that we were able to avoid getting Felton, and avoid having to resign him or potentially overpaying for him. I love that basically he's a worse version of Ford with who is only 1 year younger and isn't as clutch, and has inflated stats due to heavy minutes.

There is no denying that Tinsley is on the block. The Pacers did not allow him to join the team during training camp and have been working with his agent, Raymond Brothers, to move him all season. According to all parties involved, Tinsley is totally healthy and in decent shape. Given his undeniable talent, that should have a number of teams seriously interested.

However, the issue is twofold. One is his contract: Tinsley still has two years and $14.7 million left on his deal after this season. Second is the combination of his injury history and off-the-court track record. In the past six seasons, he has started more than 43 games only once. And his well-publicized off-the-court issues have given a number of teams pause. Still, Tinsley could be the answer for teams -- like Miami -- that are looking for help.

I posted this in the trade thread, but i did think about making it's own thread. Since it's a credible source talking about a possible deal, i think it should deserve it's own thread. Felton shows flashes of greatness and has been healthy. I can't imagine Ford being a better defender either. But i don't know, i'm torn on it, i've been thinking for most of the afternoon the positives and negatives of such a deal.

Also, in the same article, he lists Jarrett Jack as a player who could be traded by the trade deadline.

Evan (Indianapolis): The Pacers have two expiring contracts available as trade assets (Rasho and Marquis Daniels' team option) as well as a potential 2009 lottery pick. Do you think they'll use them to acquire somebody or do you think they'll just take the cap relief and the draft pick?

Both of those expiring contracts are players that can actually help a team, which increases their value. They could be a big player at the trade deadline. My guess is that it will come down to ... can they get the big man the desperately need?

I asked like three questions in Ford's chat. Nothing. I like the idea of trading for Conley while his stock is low. I really think the situation there is bad for him, and that he still can be a very, very good starting PG in this league. He isnt a good shooter, but TJ really isnt either, and Conley might benefit by being in an up-tempo system that makes his passing more valuable. Plus, he is a really good defender, which is nice.

I also asked about us acquiring Elton Brand. I know he's played bad this season, has injury concerns, and a rather lavish contract, but his scoring and defense in the post would be huge for this team. I wouldnt be opposed to offering Dunleavy+Rasho for Brand and whatever else would make it work under the cap.

The only worry I have with brand is with his knee, and that he got hurt in a fast paced offense...which is what we are still running.

^^ Ford did mention a Bulls/76ers deal that he could see going down. It was Larry Hughes and Tyrus Thomas/or Noah for Elton Brand. As Ford said in his chat, it was a massive mistake for Philly to sign Brand. If that is the case, i'm sure they would be in favor of a Rasho/Dunleavy deal, which would also open up a ton of minutes for Brandon Rush.

I would have done a Ford for Felton swap had Felton been signed to a long term extension at a reasonable price. Ford is way too inconsistant and has really not done all that much outside a few games in Obie's system. On top of that, Felton is healthier than Ford and a better defender.

The Tar Heels ran the same type of offense that we do. Felton was great in that system and could very well just need a change of scenery before he starts to fulfill his potential. I think he would be a great PG for us, but no I wouldn't trade Ford for him unless we had him on an extension and got a little more with him.

The way I see it, Ford is not the future at PG for the Pacers, I don't know if Felton would be, but he has a better shot than Ford does, and he is suited for our offense. I don't care what anyone else says, Ford has shown nothing to back up the assumption he is good for our offense. Oh, and as for Felton not being as clutch as Ford....I would actually argue he is more clutch than Ford.

I'm sure ya'll can remember all the times hes hit daggers against the Pacers and hes had other gamewinners also. I think hes a perfect fit for us.

The Bobcats actually offered Gerald Wallace for TJ Ford in the summer when he was with the Raptors.

I Like Wallace but I dont think he would fit well with Granger. As for Felton I see him as an upgrade over Ford and would be more then interested in a swap.

Why on Earth would Memphis trade Conley for Jack? I think we would probably have to give them Rush/Hibbert/protected first rounder + Daniels for Conley + filler.

Let's be atleast somewhat realistic.

The deals i've heard for Conley Jr are surrounded by Josh Howard (Dallas) and Joe Alexander (Bucks) and Bucks would be giving up another player too (Sessions possibly?). Knowing that, Jack for Conley Jr is very unrealistic. Jack at best is a good back-up. If we trade for Conley Jr we are hoping he can become our franchise PG.

I fail to see how Felton isn't a true PG? Hes always had good assist numbers and he can run the fast break better than any PG on our team.

Last night against the Lakers in LA, Felton had 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists.

I've heard he's a score first point guard. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I wouldn't exactly classify that as a true PG. He had a good night, but if he was that good of a distributor, Larry Brown and the Bobcats wouldn't have drafted the pass heavy DJ Augustin.

Unless my math is off, which it could be - I tried doing it in my head, then Felton averages more assists per48 and less TO's per48 than Augustin.
