Jays' crackling bats crush Sox
By Cathal Kelly
Toronto went from strength to strength as the offence piled on runs while ace Roy Halladay was inflicting a thrashing on the hitters. Considering all the errors Boston made in the field, the 10-3 final doesn't begin to cover how lopsided this one was. But the win was clouded by the fact that another regular, catcher Gregg Zaun, has been lost to injury.

Jays start putting the puzzle together

The most unsettling happenstance of the night was the throwing hand injury to Gregg Zaun early in the game on a foul tip. He tried to continue but could not. Zaun travelled to New York with the team last night but will head to Baltimore for an appointment with a hand specialist, the same doctor that treated Justin Speier last spring.

"It's tough to overcome (these injuries)," a concerned Halladay said. "You do the best to make up for whatever losses you have, but you never overcome having Troy (Glaus) or Reed (Johnson) out and now Gregg. It just becomes imperative that you do the little things right."

Baby steps for Glaus
By Ken Fidlin
After two weeks of rest and rehab, Troy Glaus will begin to put his tender heel to the test today when he joins the Blue Jays in New York. Glaus isn't eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list until Saturday, but he'll hit with the team and take some ground balls.

Partnership takes charge

Meanwhile, Halladay, not overpowering early, was the beneficiary of all that run support to earn his third win of the year, limiting the Sox to five hits without issuing a walk through eight innings. Halladay seemed to get stronger as the game went on. After he gave up a fourth-inning homer to Mike Lowell, he retired the last 14 men he faced and finished with a season-high 10 strikeouts, including five of his last six hitters.

Blue Jays double up on Boston
By Jeff Blair
"[The success of his curve] is something you definitely want to carry on," said Halladay, who gave up five hits (including a solo home run to Mike Lowell) in coming within one strikeout of matching his career high set on Sept. 19, 2001, against the Baltimore Orioles. He hadn't struck out 10 batters since May 29, 2005, against the Minnesota Twins.

"We changed a few things since my previous start. I wanted to get on top of that pitch a little more, because it had become kind of loopy," said Halladay, who has worked seven innings or more in his four starts. "I wanted to throw it more downward. I could tell in the bullpen it was going to be effective
