Why the hell isnt Hamed getting any minutes?

Post#1 » by memphesis2 » Wed Jan 28, 2009 4:24 pm

Hi guys,

I dont know if you all watched the last Memphis game but Marc Gasol had 0 points when he played 20 minutes he was simply horrible and our (Please Use More Appropriate Word) coach gave everyone else minutes but Hamed. I just don't know why Hamed is not getting any minutes when the guy keeps trying time and time again and trust me when I say this he is better than a lot of Memphis players. I dont know if the coach is racist that's why hes not letting Hamed play I just cant figure it out. And if your not going to let him play jesus at least send him to d-league so he can get some minutes and can develop into one of the future Memphis players.

Hamed did spend time in the DLeague. The problem is, the DLeague is a guard/wing oriented league. If you're talented/big, you're on an NBA bench. Hamed's just not ready yet. Heck, his conditioning isn't really up to NBA standards yet. The Grizz brass knew there would be a learning curve here, but saw some potential - thus the multi year deal. Finally, throwing him to the wolves nightly when he's not set up to succeed just wouldn't be a good move. The Front Office team (and for once I agree) really want to do his development right.

Marc played at an MVP level in one of the best leagues outside of the NBA. Haddadi's experience level is nowhere near that. However, there is promise. I'll just preach patience for now - I have to do the same for myself at times too :)

Hamed just doesn't have a feel for the game right now, and while he could have gotten minutes last night, keep in mind that Denver's big's are fleet of foot which caused a lot of problems for Marc Gasol it could have been an overwhelming experience for someone with his little experience. Hamed not playing is not always at his detriment, it could quit possibly be a protection so he doesn't lose confidence or is overwhelmed. (Just a thought)

The D League is a guard oriented league in so far as it is a guard oriented game. But, so is college basketball. It doesn't mean that there aren't standouts. Look at Courtney Sims and others. It all depends which players you have on your team.

I sort of sympathize with what the original poster feels. (btw welcome to the board) If we aren't going anywhere and we recently called Hamed up, we might as well play him in limited minutes. (especially if Marc is having a terrible game) Still, I sort of feel like Lionel is just getting a feel for how he is going to work the rotations. As a new coach, it is much more understandable.

Thanks a lot. Its just frustrating seeing Memphis lose when they have so many good talents on their team. Sure Marc Gasol played in one of the best leagues in the world. But did you ever check Hameds D-league stats and his NBA stat + his Olympics stat considering the number of minutes he gets. Hell I would take Hamed over Marco Jaric and half of the Memphis team excluding players like Oj Mayo, Rudy gay and Marc Gasol any day I don't know about you. IMHO the rest are just **** why cant Memphis just trade them all away. Hamed is a great player he just needs to be given minutes to develop his game. Let me ask you a question: How do you know Hamed is not ready at the NBA level? He has only played 3 minutes the most whenever he gets a chance to play but seeing Memphis lose by 20 and not consider putting in Hamed is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Well you got the guy why the hell wont you use him. Did you watch the Iranian national team in the Olympics did you see his stats and yes he was playing against some NBA players like Yao Ming and was posting some top notch numbers.

Plenty of guys post huge games in the Olympics but their game does not always translate to the style of the NBA. See Daniel Santiago from Puerto Rico who really tore up NBA competition and demonstrated some nice skills. He was signed following the Olympics, but like Hamed, he was not fully adjusted to the tempo and style of play. He became a journeyman. I'm just trying to say that these types of things do not always carry over.

I feel the same way too.

If Conley get minutes, why Hamed don´t get? I bet that in a one-on-one Hamed would destroy Conley, Buckner, Jaric...

btw, there´s no way that Hamed´s conditioning is worst than Scalabrines and Cardinals, and they all get minutes.

Finally some one can make a sense of things. Its ridiculous. When more than half the team is **** wouldn't you think of putting in Hamed. Hamed has really good potential to become a great player. I just have one question for you all aren't you tired of Memphis losing all the time and coming in last place every single time well then the only way to become successful is by trying new things. I believe that we can put the end to this losing ego and put on a winning ego and for the first time in 10 years I believe we can make the playoffs.

Well, you're obviously not looking for objectivity. I merely presented both sides of the argument.......

I understand the whole 3-years plan...but...if we´ll only play the first 3 quarters (cause the Grizzlies 4th quarters is a joke), let the last one to the guys who need playing time (Hamed, Arthur, Lowry...)

^^ that's exactly right. I think your the only that makes sense on this forum and knows how to analyze properly. When Marc Gasol is tired then you can sub in Hamed in the 4th quarter and get him some playing time to develop his game that wouldn't really hurt would it guys.
