If NOT Woody... Who?

Post#1 » by lethalweapon3 » Fri Oct 24, 2008 12:36 pm

Not wishing ill will on my Fine Feathered Friends in any way. Just thinking ahead...

Supposing by Xmas or even the All-Star Break the team hasn't performed up to expectations... or performs DOWN to expectations, if the Chad Fords of the world are to be taken semi-seriously. Let's say they win only about a third of their games and Smoove has run out of mouthpieces to smash after "feuding" so much. If Woodson is given his walking papers, who would be your most preferable candidates to replace him in midseason?

Do they ride with Larry Drew for the rest of the year to see how he fares? Do they pluck an assistant (Ty Corbin? Dwane Casey?) off someone else's bench? Do they go after the Little General? Or do they get one of those TV color-commentating ex-coaches who act like they know so much (Doug Collins? Paul Silas? JVG just got a new TV deal so I can't imagine he's available now)

Also, what would the candidate you propose bring to the court and the locker room that Woodson currently lacks?

If that happens then we need to shop the hell out of Bibby and just go with an assistant as the interim coach. Good call on Corbin, I like him a lot.

Digging this question back up as we approach the All-Star Break and the team has begun looking more and more like the dysfunctional bunch we all know and love.

Fans clamoring, "Fire Woody," persistently leave out the "and replace him with xxxxxxx!" part.

So is it safe to say Avery would be (and should be) Consensus Candidate #1 if Woody gets his walking papers?

Any of the recently fired coaches (Jordan, Smitch, Cheeks, Carlesimo) that should be a higher priority? Some network TV know-it-all? Or would Larry Drew at the helm be all this team needs, so long as it's not Woody?

What do you think these Coaches are going to ask for yearly? The ASG are throwing money away as we speak and will only be looking for a bargain. Woody's that bargain!

He's not going to get fired anyways as long as this team is playing above .500 basketball. At this point it's up to these players and they're not exactly catching the net on fire.

I would definitely try and pry the Little General to the Hawks' nest and see how JJ and company responds to his style and level of basketball.

I guess from a business standpoint, I can understand why they're not changing to a better coach.

I hate micromanaging type coaches. I wouldn't let Avery anywhere near the team even if he were willing to coach for free.

Too late now, and he wouldn't have come anyways, but D'Antoni is fantastic. The Knicks look so much better on both ends this year than they did last year and the Suns look worse on both ends.

I'd like to give EJ a shot. I mean, his greatest failing was to consistently get an injured squad to overcome expectations so that when they didn't this season, he got canned.

I don't care who our coach is. The coach doesn't shoot free throws, the coach doesn't rotate defensively, the coach can't make Joe/Bibby remember how to hit a jump shot.

Our biggest problem right now is players. This team has no leadership whatsoever and continues to fizzle when there is any type of pressure on them (i.e. road games).
