DB.com proposes Shaq for Howard

Found this article pretty interesting and is obviously a different direction for the Suns. Dallas would have to include a big man instead of Stackhouse to make this reasonable. But at the very least, Amare would be the focal point again and PHX would run a lot more.

Re: DB.com proposes Shaq for Howard
I absolutely LOVE it. Have to get a young big back instead of Stack though. We need to run and Shaq holds that all up and TP will have no choice but to unleash Nash and the rest of em. Give it this year and next and then rebuild. Shaq isn't doing anything but hindering the Suns. Sure, he's been outstanding, doing what he does...but that's not what the Suns need. They don't need to slow the game down and bang...they aren't good enough defensively to do that.

throw Brandon Bass in there and it helps the idea. Shaq's #'s are great this year but he dis-engages the rest of the team when he is working in the post. I don't think Shaq was the answer at all. Don't know if this trade would improve the team that much but I would prefer Shaq to be moved over Amare anyday.

Dallas Fan here -
Josh would actually be a better fit if you go for a run and gun system...he would have a different role than what he has here in Dallas. Honestly we try to depend on him as a #2 and he doesn't really fit that role. I would think he would be behind Amare, J-Rich, and Nash in the pecking order. Josh as a #3 or 4 is a very nice situation to be in.
Lopez, Amare, Josh, J-Rich, Nash possibly with someone like Bass coming off the bench gets your offense rolling at a pretty high speed. There isn't a major cap hit as well because there is a team option on Howard going into the 2010 season.

I'm now for it if we get BB in the deal. The more i think about it the more I think that team chemistry would improve on the SUns.

I think it's a deal that makes both teams better. I highly doubt it would happen but if the team needs a makeover, who can the Suns honestly trade to make that happen?

--- You know, I have been marveling at Shaq's resurrection even though I haven't been sold on what it's meant to the team as a whole. His numbers have blinded some to what they've cost across the board? ... Amare is shut out, Nash is trying to adapt to a system that doesn't fit his skills, the offense is not just ugly but ineffectual ...lots of standing around watching Shaq and waiting to see if he shoots or not.
We were doing better when Shaq was a role player. I think Porter is hanging everything on Shaq out of desperation and it's going to come crashing down.

Re: DB.com proposes Shaq for Howard
it's clearly a steal for the suns!
shaq will most likley retire after this season, without winning a championship in phoenix. the suns get a 18/5 two-way player with a very firendly contract in return.
It would be very dump to pass this trade.

The Grizzlies wouldn't even be dumb enough to do that.
I say go ahead and take Howard. Maybe get bass somehow, if we throw in Barnes. Hey, it's not like the shaq thing is helping us beat the spurs. :eyeroll:

"Amare is shut out, Nash is trying to adapt to a system that doesn't fit his skills, the offense is not just ugly but ineffectual ...lots of standing around watching Shaq and waiting to see if he shoots or not."
This statement perplexes me. This thread, and a few others like it, are incinuating that Shaq is the problem with the system. But look at that statement. A lot of standing around and watching. For anyone who watched Shaq in LA, remember how efficient the offense flowed when the wing players actually cut and moved? Instead of putting the blame on his shoulders, why don't the other retards on the team learn how to play without the freakin' ball? Amare has the IQ of a sack of rocks. Nash has been exposed the most without someone constantly bailing him out on D, and look at his turnovers. He insists on trying to put the ball where he can't put it, and going back to last year's playoffs, they cost us games. And none of them can play a lick of defense.
You say that it would be good to get back a player that gives you 18 and 5. Well, Shaq is giving you 18 and 9 and shooting near 60% from the field! The problem is that this team (and I mean AMARE AND NASH) is pouting about their beloved SSOL offense being dead and buried. You mean to tell me that they can't learn how to play with the best post presence since Wilt? It that's the case, they're dumber that I thought. Neither one of them play any defense, and that is mostly about effort. Especially Amare. I know Nash looks like he tries, but he gives up and waits for the big men to bail him out. However, Amare WON'T bail him out. He has as many physical gifts as Lebron, and I watched him dominate Duncan in the playoffs a few years ago. He just doesn't give a crap!
Porter is not the right coach for this team. I'll agree with that. But when you have a 30 something year old Grant Hill and a 36 yr old Shaq playing their azzes off, but your young stud who constantly whines about "being the man, getting his gorilla game on, becoming like Artest", and then getting 4 RPG and getting anally raped on defense, the coaching is not entirely to blame. If the team would have bought into the system, they would be fine. But Porter came into this job and demanded that this team do something they were never asked to do--excel on DEFENSE! How dare him ask that of them!!!
So I say that you keep the people that are producing above their normal abilities and look like they actually give a shiznit- Hill, Shaq, Barbs, Amundson, Barnes, and Richardson. I'd shop Nash and Amare. You can argue with me that Nash is the heart of this team, and he was the 2 time MVP. But he is playing like his grandmother. And if Amare wants to be the man but can't improve at this point in his career, let him get his gorilla game on in another jersey. I'd rather have someone less talented with more heart. I'd take Udonis Haslem for Amare at this point!! At least he plays defense. Do any of you honestly think that if the Suns get rid of Shaq, that this team will suddenly become a contender? Is Amare finally going to learn how to play defense (or grow the ballz to give the effort)? Will Nash suddenly gain the ability to stay in front of Tony Parker? I didn't think so. So no, trading Shaq is not the answer. You need someone to step in and give these guys some effin' heart. They need to buy into whatever system the coach tells them to play. And become experts at it. They make enough damn money and should not have any problems with that!

that dude jaypo = Shaq homer. Just look at some of his posts on that Shaq vs Yao thread in player comparisons a while back. Don't mind him.
