1 Team in 20 Years

Post#1 » by pac213up » Wed Jan 28, 2009 3:21 pm

The amount of teams that have won an NBA Championship giving up 99+ pts a game. Remember all those great regular season teams Sacramento, Dallas, & Phoenix had - well that's the 08-09 version of the Lakers. Can't give up that many points and win in a 7 game series and history proves it.

The Kings, Mavs, and Suns played no D and had no desire to play D. Besides none of those teams had the best player in the NBA and a coach who has won 9 rings.

Interesting how you chose only 20yrs. When the Lakers won titles in 86-87 and 87-88 they gave up 107 and 108 points a game.

When they lost to Det they only gave up 94 points a game. Its not all D but it is helpful.

Not a stupid thread in my opinion. All the Lakers fans want to feel special and think that this team can be an exception but the OP has a point.

We gotta clean up our defense.

I agree the Lakers need to clean up their D but to compare the Lakers current team D to Sac, Dallas, or Phx is plain stupid.

It isn't stupid. Despite what the stats say, our D is extremely inconsistent. Sac, Dallas, and Phx all played above average D so it's not like they were bottom feeders.

The OP does have a point but comparing us to Dallas and Phoenix is stupid. The Lakers can play great defense when they want to, which is something I can't say about those other teams.

Also I'd like to point out that we made it to the Finals last year without being at full strength, something Pheonix never did.

That's because the game has changed quite a bit since that time in case you have not noticed. Check out the scoring averages across the board in the 80's. I'm sure with your level of intelligence you can figure out what that equates to today.

Agree and not saying the Lakers won't make it back or cannot win it but just pointing out that there are other things to look at besides W/L in the regular season and in recent history teams that do well in the regular season and give up lots of points do not win the title. It's just a fact.

Your questioning my intelligence when you compare this current Lakers team D to Sac, Dallas, and Phx. Take a look in the mirror because those teams lacked the intelligence or willingness to play D. Avery Johnson at least saw defense as a necessity something Adelman and D'Antoni have no desire to waste time on.

I did a little research and your stats are WRONG.
In 88-89 Det gave up 100.8 http://www.basketball-reference.com/lea ... _1989.html
In 90-91 the Bulls gave up 101 http://www.basketball-reference.com/lea ... _1991.html
In91-92 Bulls gave up 99.5 http://www.basketball-reference.com/lea ... _1992.html
In 94-94 Hou gave up 101.4 http://www.basketball-reference.com/lea ... _1995.html

So next time you come trolling around here at least have your fax straight Mr. intelligence!

Oh snap. Somebody just got served.

Although the point remains the same -- unless this team starts playing better, and more consistent, on the defensive end, winning the title is going to be that much tougher.
