Post#1 » by Bruiser » Fri Jan 30, 2009 10:25 am

Hey yo!

The Magic beat the Cavs so we are back on the top of the league!!!
That means home court advantage all the way to the 18th banner!!!

Any thoughts? Kind regards.

What a horrible shooting night for LBJ and Mo Williams. There's a chance 66 wins will be enough this yeas as well.

Cs on top at the moment, but season isnt over, many things may happen.
Who would win one-on-one in HORSE?

Bird: Nobody beats me in H-O-R-S-E. Besides, Magic cant shoot.

Magic: Larry, you'd have no chance against me one-on-one. I've got too many ways to beat you. Plus, as slow as I am, I'm still faster than you.

Cavs are still the best team in the East. Once they get West and Z back it will only make them better. Plus the celtics have their west coast trip soon which means a few losses.

What killed the celtics was when they went 2-7 and that is what will prevent the celtics from home getting home court advantage this year.

don't think the celtics have anything to anymore to fear about the cavs than they do from the lakers or magic. i don't really think you can say anyone of those four is clearly better than the other three. one thing i think that should worry the Cs and especially their front office and coaching staff is if the cavs turn wally's expiring contract into a much better player via trade. there are already rumors that he might be moved for brad miller or wince carter. if a move like that were to pan out, the cavs might be able to move ahead the top 4.

Nah Kefa, I disagree. Joebiscuit often provides a good dose of realism to this board. The Cavaliers should scare us Celtics fan--they are, in my opinion, the Celtics' only serious competition to reaching the Finals--I just don't see Orlando as being there yet.

The Celtics need home-court advantage if they really want to beat Cleveland, should they meet in the playoffs (which I'm sure they will). I think the Celtics have the mental edge (they beat Cleveland before) and the experiential edge (they won the Finals, after all).

But to agree with the OP, I too was happy to see that the Cavs lost :D

The Celts absolutely need home court to even stand a chance against the Cavs IMHO.

- I don't think we have that big of an edge in terms of experience, since the Cavs have been to the Finals too.

- the Cs play like trash in Cleveland, so securing a victory there would be difficult.

- they match up very well with the Cs. Lebron can shut Pierce down. The Cavs always do a great job on Ray Allen. Rondo's ability to penetrate and score is lessened due to the presence of shot-blockers and floppers. They also have a sufficient amount of bigs to throw at KG.

It's going to be a dog fight, and I can't say I like our chances much if we don't have home-court advantage. And even then, it's still not a sure thing. It took a huge performance from Pierce to get us out of game 7, and with Lebron's increased focus on defense this season, a 41 pont performance from Pierce would be tough to replicate.

We'll need solid production from the bench. And FWIW, Joel Brigham from hoopsworld seems to think that Joe Smith would choose us over the Cavs if he were to be bought out by the Thunder. Adding Joe Smith and Marbury would increase my confidence in the Cs ability to beat the Cavs quite a bit.

If the cavs swapped Wally for Vince... just... yikes.

I have really mixed feelings about Marbury, but that all goes out the window when I imagine him subbing into the game in a playoff series against the Cavs. He'd be the only guy on our bench who could unquestionably pull his own weight in a situation like that. I really like Pruitt, Powe, House, even Walker but none of them would make me think "okay, now how are the Cavs going to deal with that?"
I'm just sayin' is all...

Road game in Detroit tonight, home game against the Lakers coming up, 2 more games against the Cavs and Magic left, a very difficult road trip coming up. We have the same number of losses as the Lakers and Cavs, and frankly the only thing that matters at this point in the schedule is how many losses teams have (you can always win your next games, but you can never get back a loss).

When the C's are ahead 4 games in the loss column, lets talk about this.

You seem to have some confusion between the terms realism and negativism. While he/she provides a balance to some of the wack job optimism it doesn't make it real. If you never say anything positve then you are__________ fill in the blank.

Anyway as I have been trying to say for a while good teams aren't supposed to lose at home. The Magic should beat the Cavs at home if they are a contender. That is what is somewhat overrated about the Lakers to this point is that they seem to have played a majority of those marquee matchups in LA. I also think that the inability to defend the home court is more damning than winning a road game is a big win.

Realism is a good thing. And indeed, we I agree that the Cavs are our major obstacle to getting back to the Finals. And I agree that I would to see crazy but very very talented Starbury (whose mental illness is controlled by KG and Paul), and a big like Joe Smith on this team very soon.

However, unfathomable, irrational, psychopathic negativity is not a good thing. Remember guys, the "joey the biscuit - prognosticator extraordinaire" is the same guy who predicted a loss in every playoff series last spring and almost every single game. What happened? I think we won #17. LOL. After our 2-7 slump, he also predicted that we had to trade one of the big 3 before the team became an embarrassment to the league, we were no better than Miami, and we were heading for a 0.500 record by March. What happened? We have won 9 straight absolutely thrashing some very good teams along the way including Orlando on the road and Dallas.

The road will not be easy, but we will overcome and get back to the Finals. One thing is for sure. If we lose a couple on our West Coast trip or lose to the Fakers again - Joey will be in his glory once again predicting the end of the franchise. LOLOLOL.

I agree with Joebiscuit's point about Cleveland really missing Big Z and Delonte (to a lesser extent). Good thing is that the C's are capitalizing on the Cavs recent fall-off. In terms of Cleveland being the team to beat, I don't think you can say that with any confidence right now as we're playing at a level that's comparable to Cleveland's dominating stretch and we're doing it against better competition. The degree of separation between us is razor thin IMO.

We've got a long way to go.... though it is nice that the balance of good has been restored and the C's are back on top. Personally, and try to follow this closely because this is some tight thinking here, personally I think the C's need to just keep winning. With the improvement in the competition this year homecourt would be a needed edge. Doesn't gaurantee the finals just like not getting homecourt wouldn't gaurantee a disappointing exit, but any edge is a good edge in the playoffs.

Honestly all I think they need is Marbury. A Center would be nice but I think a point guard who can shoot is the most important. If he gets a majority of the minutes on the road, I don't see any reason to think Boston can't defeat the Cavs in Cleveland.
