I just have a hunch that he'll tantalize with pretty jumpers and big dunks, but will disappoint overall. He doesnt strike me as a great "thinker of the game," and I'm guessing that he can fetch more than his theoretical "actual value" in a trade. I think you can put together his highlight reel and sell it to opposing GM's as a potential all-star caliber shooting guard, when in reality he's nowhere near there.

Or you could have him play 30 minutes per game and watch his #s grow from 10 to 15-16 ppg and watch teams call in the trade demands. I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that the Wizards are attempting to lower Young's market value when the time comes when he becomes a free agent.

But let's be real. EG more than likely sees Young in this teams long term plans; he picked him after all. So you say he doesn't rebound or play great defense but he can score. His scouting report hasn't changed at all since they drafted him. The Wizards are not getting a top 10 pick for him and maybe not even a top 20 pick (although it sounds like you would settle for a 2nd round pick).

Also, Young is not one dimensional. A one dimensional player would be someone like Kapono who only shoots 3s. Young can score in multiple ways; driving to the basket, from the midrange, and from the outside. I hope some coach thinks he can coach Young better because its not like Eddie Tapscott is an above average coach. Plug him in a good defensive scheme like Cleveland.

Young might not be getting major minutes is because he already has a knee injury which will require surgery in the offseaon. He has a long way to go to be the starting shooting guard this team desperately needs. But I wouldn't say he's a lost cause; he's a 2nd year player with some maturing to do.

Boo f'ing hoo. Play defense.

hey fish

no problem with the sentiment although I do think N1 (NOT NewYork)
has played average D.

I hope the lack of recognition makes N1 and McGee go out and work
harder, especially in games. He has shown he is capable. Unfortunately
he has also shown he is capable of giving you very little a bit too often.

The way this team is currently playing, no one should have any gripes
about lack of recognition.

QFT

I like N1. I think he could still develop into a pretty special player.

That said, the only rational argument one can make for him not playing
more (and actually averaging 30 mpg) is that the guys coaches have ahead
truly suck worse. It's not because of anything N1 has actually accomplished
himself. The selection folks probably look at that too. If he can't make
the coach sit DeBrick, how good can he be?

edit to add - my summary point, if the best argument that his supporters
here can make for him not playing more is that the people in front of him
suck, that's not a very good, as in affirmative, case. Seriously. And I fully
agree he should play more. But he's gotta make that case so blatantly obvious
UNDER THE BRIGHT LIGHTS, that no one can deny it.

As for dunks, I know he can be spectacular. But I'm not seeing it happen
too often. So what's the point if he doesn't do it in games?

His happy go lucky demeanor is starting to wear thin with me.
Until he starts producing, how about some intensity.

Piggybacking off of ASG outrage:

Rashard Lewis an all-star? over Vince Carter or even... David Lee?

Nothing surprises me anymore, these are the same dumbasses that left off Gil averaging 28/6/5...in a year we didn't suck. The first time in NBA history a player averaging more than 25pts was left off the team.

Was that the year where he only made it because of someone getting injured? (forgot who)

Yup, the ever durable J. O'Neal went down, and Stern named Gil as the replacement.
