Seems like a good deal for the Sox and for Youk. After the rocky start, this offseason is turning out to be pretty good for the Red Sox.

Henry Varitek meeting one on one tonight.
Henry seemed very irritated when asked about boras in a interview.

Also signed Javier Lopez to a one year deal.

Papelbon said on sports tonight that he and the sox couldnt see eye to eye on a long term deal.
Sad to hear that, maybe next winter things will change.
The 31-year-old Lopez, who made $840,000 last year, went 2-0 with a 2.43 ERA in 70 appearances in 2008. His deal is worth $1.35 million, according to SI.com.

What? I'm just sayin!
On the radio today they were talking dunn. Rosenthal brought it up in a article.
If he is willing to accept a one year to be a utility outfielder, I would at least think about it.

Dunn is way too good to be a 4th OF and backup first baseman. But if he's willing to do it, sure come on in.

Re: Offseason outlook/Trade ideas
This Tek deadline is irritating. Now they are saying since boras is on the west coast the deadline is 11:30 am. Ugh, just trade for montero or salty.

SI.com wrote:Jason Varitek has reached a two-year agreement with the Red Sox, SI.com has learned. The captain decided to return after many twists and turns in negotiations.
The 36-year-old catcher, who has served as Boston's official team captain since 2005, is coming off of the worst offensive season of his career, hitting just .220 with 43 RBIs in 131 games.
Looks pretty credible, but take it for what it's worth.
I still would like to see theo make a deal for a young catcher.

Re: Offseason outlook/Trade ideas
Official: Mazz Confirms, tek is back on a 1 year deal with an option.
Jason Varitek and the Red Sox have agreed to a one-year contract with an option, a baseball source confirmed to the Globe's Tony Massarotti.
Varitek will earn $5 million in 2009, with the club holding a $5 million option for 2010. If the Red Sox do not pick up that option, Varitek has the choice of remaining with the club on a $3 million deal. In '10, he can earn another $2 million in incentives based on playing time, beginning at 80 games started.

Figured Tek would be back. Seems like a fair deal, maybe this year he'll be able to hit a bit. On a positive note it does give the team more time to make a move for a young catcher.

Good to see, sad it took this long for something that seemed ineveitable from the start imo.
And stud, it's definitely a possibility still, Bard's contract isn't guaranteed if I remember correctly.

Do you smoke rocks? Why in the name of Rico Petrocelli would you wan to bring back Andruw Jones? He's getting heavier, his defense in CF is falling off because of that, he seems resistant to coaching, his production is Lugo-esque and we have no room on the roster for him. Why? Even if he were to rebound and improve in 2009, he has no room to do it in Boston. If one of the starters is out for the rest of the year with a torn knee or something, then he would have a role but he is still a horrible baseball player at this point in his career. mahalo

A longshot of an idea, but The Sox should make a play for Beltran, shipping out Ellsbury as the centerpiece. That gives NY enough wiggle room financially to make a play for Manny

Re: Offseason outlook/Trade ideas
I believe he was an option for left when Manny first started his antics way back when.
I don't mind the signing. Hopefully he can make the club and produce.
