Just saw the news that Bynum is out for 2-3 months. With this situation I thought that LAL might be willing to make a move to ensure that they are competative this year (with or without Bynum).

LAL Gives:
Chris Mihm (C) expiring
Lamar Odom (SF) expiring


LAL Gets:
Mike Miller (SF) 1 year left
Samual Delmbert (C) 2 years left


LAL loses Odom, but pick up Miller who could replace the 6th man role, and is under contract for one more year allowing the Lakers a chance to get the group together for another run. They do pick up Dalembert and his longer deal, but he should compliment Gasol well, and provide a really nice 3rd big for a rotation when Bynum comes back. This is also assuming that even when bynum comes back he will be rusty and the Lakers want more insurance for the playoffs after coming up short last year. My big concern is that this deal seems to light in returns for LA.

PHI Gets:
Lamar Odom (SF) expiring
Rashad McCants (SG) expiring

PHI loses Miller and Young, which is painful. However in return they gain a bunch of expirings, and turn Dalembert in the 1 year deal of Cardinal. This allows PHI to instantly become an attractive location for 2009 free agents when there are few buyers.

Brian Cardinal (SF) 1 year left

MIN Gets:
Andre Miller (PG) expiring
Chris Mihm (C) expiring
Thaddeus Young (SF) 3 years left

MIN gets expirings much like in the Cleveland deal, however instead of getting a late first they get Thaddeus Young to fill the SF spot. This also would allow them to see how effective the lineup can be with a real PG for a few months. With this trade I feel the draft/offseason could focus on getting a starting PG and a third big man for a rotation.

I can see the Lakers possibly doing it, but the $ for Dalembert when he will eventually be a backup makes it unlikely.

I don't see Philly getting rid of Young to move Dalembert's contract with only a late 1st to show for it.

Yeah, the Sixers don't touch this. I wouldn't do it for the Lakers, either, but it's closer for them.

Too much salary for the lakers and miller duplicate radmanovic for them anyways. Philly is left with no PG, takes on Cardinal's deal, and gives up their best young player for an odom rental. All around horrible for them.

the lakers will simply go back to their lineup last year that made the finals. Pau/odom/ariza/bryant/fisher. Mihm is capable of logging more minutes.

Philly is very high on Young.

Yeah - its not like the Lakers aren't going to make the playoffs or Bynum isn't going to be back for the playoffs.

They'd possibly give some thought to a Bynum for Jefferson trade, but I think the salaries would be difficult to match up.

I think there is some pressure on the Lakers to do something with Bynum out, because of the very tight race for home court advantage:

41-9 BOS
38-9 CLE
36-11 ORL

38-9 LAL

A lot of people don't put much stock in home court advantage, but I should mentioned the team LAL is tied with right now, CLE, is undefeated at home. HCA may be the difference between a ring and another exit from the play-offs.

However, Dalembert is a longterm investment, and the Lakers gave Bynum an extension that runs through 2013. I could see a deal for a back-up center with a deal that runs two-years tops. On their board, someone mentioned Kwame as a joke, but they were very receptive to the idea. At $4 mil a year for two years, the contract isn't excessive, the guy can play defense, and he knows the system. Maybe we could work something around that?
