Minny-Portland trade

Post#1 » by dunkonu21 » Mon Feb 2, 2009 10:14 pm

I think most of you know that I hate Portland more than most people. But I was thinking that if we had a true SG for the future then i'd be very happy about this team. I know some people think of Brew as our SG for the future, but to me he is a 6th man at best.

Joel Pryzbilla
Rudy Fernandez

for

Mike Miller
Boston's pick.

This gives Portland that guy they really wanted in Mike Miller. Rudy is a lot to give up for them, but I think this is fair value. Thoughts?

The Blazers rely on Pryzbilla, with that human foul machine Oden in front of him. He's a good defensive center, which futs exactly what they need, so they don't even mind his salary.

That said, Miller to POR makes a lot of sense, and has been mentioned frequently. Most deals start with the expiring Raef LaFrentz + ??? for Miller+ Cardinal. For the ???, MIN posters like Outlaw or Sergio, POR prefers Diogu, Channing Frye or Webster.

What? You must live in an igloo if you think that's a fair deal! Oh wait...

Ferandez > Miller

How is this fair?

Portland guys who've been on here (trying to peddle martell webster's bad deal) are of the opinion that Przybilla is too important a piece for them to move. Plus if they take on miller they need to move a SF. And they seem to think bayless, batum, and fernandez are all untouchable. Fernandez is not better than miller yet, but has more value because of his sweet rookie deal. He has the potential to be better though.

No way would Portland:
a) give up on Rudy so easily.
b) Trade him for Mike Miller

The only argument I see for them giving up value would be to clear up 2009 Free Agency money. Pryz would be a nice option, but im not up to donating them Mike Miller for him. I still think he is a stiff and don't want him.

What about Martell Webster? Any hope for him?

no way Portland even thinks about that trade. they hang up instantly. they value the Vanilla Gorilla very highly and I doubt they want to "give up" on Rudy just to take Miller. I bet his upside is more valuable than Miller's production.

Find a salary filler. The premise of the the deal that i care about is Rudy Fernandez.

Rudy

Sorry Dunk, the premise is flawed. As others have said and repeated, Fernandez holds more value than Miller b/c of his youth and contract.

Portland doesn't make this deal because they take away from two areas of importance to try and solve one.

Truth is Rudy is not untouchable, nor anywhere close to it. Fans love to overrate their team's talent, particularly it's young 'uns (but not you Minnesota, noooooo Love is a guaranteed 20-15 guy), as evidenced by Sergio having been "untouchable", as well as the great Channing "I'm worth more to the Knicks than KG" Frye.

Great post. There's this idea out there that if the guy is a Blazer, he's worth more than he really is, because of their history of success. Truth is, they have a history of hype -- they didn't have a winning record last year. The hysteria over Sergio, from POR fans and others that believed them, is a perfect example.

Now while I agree that Rudy wouldn't get traded for Mike Miller, but don't forget who Mike Miller is. Rudy Fernandez isn't going to be rookie of the year. Rudy Fernandez can't do all the things Mike Miller can do for a team over the next two years. And if Rudy Fernandez was American, he wouldn't have been invited as an alternate to the US Olympic team -- like Mike was six months ago.
