The only realistic trade

Post#1 » by jozef » Mon Feb 2, 2009 10:55 pm

Okur and Korver for Szczerbiak (expiring contract) at trade deadline

Cleveland would do it (despite Boozer's affair) cause Korver replaces Szczerbiak's shooting touch and Okur strengthens up their frontcourt (Ilgauskas gets injured then and now) and spreads the floor for James.

Kirilenko is untradeable yet. Boozer is top 10 player (#5 in Efficiency) and Millsap is hustling beast, both worth of keepin: if Lakers can plan their future around 7-0 Gasol and Bynum then the Jazz can find way how to rotate Boozer and Millsap and Center at PF/C. We can easily play Boozer and Millsap 36 minutes and Koufos (or Kirilenko) 24 minutes to make a push for playoffs after trade deadline.

For next season the Jazz would commit 57 millions to Kirilenko, Williams, Boozer, Harpring, Miles, Brewer, Koufos and can spend 14 millions to sign Millsap and other 6 or 7 players.
I should be on Lacob payroll...

I wonder if we could find some way to trade Harpring.

It doesn't look any better on this board than it does on the Trade Board. Giving a good player away for nothing on the basis of what MIGHT happen in the off-season is nothing more than insane.

Well guys we have no choice, this is the only realistic trade. If you dispute it Jozef will punish you with his circular logic and neat websites.

Could you project your ideas how to stay under tax treshold?

Good player Okur cannot protect the basket no matter if he plays with Boozer or Millsap. We need other center. Korver does not bring anything special. Both are healthy enough to be involved in a deal.

It would be a sad day if that were to happen.

Who would be our starting Center Koufous and Fes the backup?

So we trade a prime Kyle Korver, for an over the hill Kyle Korver. Then we throw in our All-Star Center, and some how that solves our problem of not being able to play low post defense?

Care to elaborate?

Okur and Korver both have opt-outs...we have NO idea whether they're going to return next year or not. Same with Boozer. We can only guess. As a result, giving them away now, for nothing at all, would be unbelievably stupid. Your trades leap to all kinds of conclusions that are not warranted. Even if we somehow decided to ditch Okur to ensure we got under the threshold, he has value and we should be able to get more than NOTHING for him.

Great. Good thing we trade him for Wally Szczerbiak, then.

Great post on all accounts. This trade somehow manages to be even more vexing than the multitude of Wally World proposals that have been inundating the board for some time.

It's not about talent swap, it's about staying under tax treshold! We can get a pick back but why would they do it? They are going to pay 14.5 M to Okur and Korver and 14.5 M to teams under tax treshold, so they would cost them 29 M. I don't think that somebody give you first round pick.

Kirilenko in his next seasons will be more tradeable and we could trade him for Kaman and filler to heal us lack of interior defense.

Meanwhile we can start Millsap and Boozer and bring Koufos off the bench.

...unless they opt out, in which case Utah looks AWFULLY stupid...

I disagree, and if their best offer is "nothing", then we should trade with somebody else. Or, not at all.

First of all, you're assuming that Boozer and Millsap will both be back, when you have zero idea if that's true or not. Second of all, why all this talk of "we need another centre" if you're just going to play a guy we already have in that spot??

"we should trade with somebody else. Or, not at all."
We need expirings or we go above tax treshold.

Which team have cap space and want to sign Okur, Korver (if they opt out) to long contract?

Later we can trade for Kaman and if Brewer and Miles would struggle a bit then we can trade Millsap for Richard Jefferson. We could do it right now but it's hard to move injured players (Kirilenko, Kaman):

Kirilenko, Okur and Millsap for Kaman and Jefferson is doable. Korver for expiring.

09/10 payroll:
Jefferson 14.200.000
Williams 13.785.000
Boozer 12.657.233
Kaman 10.400.000
Harpring 6.500.000
Miles 3.700.000
Brewer 2.717.161
Koufos 1.214.040
Collins 1.500.000
Price 1.500.000
Fesenko 870.000
Rookie 1.100.000
Rookie 550.000
FA 500.000

Total of $ 71.193.434 M for 09/10 season.

Boozer, Okur, and Korver all have opt outs. So you don't know that.

And, one more time, EVEN IF YOU ARE RIGHT, you don't give talent away for nothing. There are other teams out there with expirings...why do you insist on sending Okur to the one team that won't give us anything back for him because they're in the tax? That's one of the silliest things I've ever heard.

Not the Jazz's problem.

We can? I suppose you have proof of this too? You're making a terrible trade now in the hopes that we can fix it with good trades later. That's not how you run a franchise.

It's not one of silliest things. Say, you are Cavs GM, your team is quite good, B.Wallace/Vareajo/Ilgauskas/Hickson can handle PF/C minutes, you can re-sign Szczerbiak for 3 millions. Is it worth of 23 millions to replace Szczerbiak with Korver and add Okur? Now inserting first round into deal?

It's the Jazz problem to know about other teams' cap space. Who is going to sign Okur to multi-year contract at 9 M per year if they know there will be big free agent summer in 2010? Say, you are Memphis GM and you have cap space to sign free agent say 32 M for 4 years, what are you going to do if Okur opts out: do you propose this deal to unrestricted free agent Okur or to restricted free agent Millsap? I bet on Millsap. Okur bets on Millsap as well in my opinion and that's why Okur will not opt out probably. Also players at his age like to play for contenders.

I do not make terrible trade. I cleans the roster to stay under tax treshold and I am limited cause of player health (I just don't believe we can trade Kirilenko to Bucks and Kaman from Clippers now). I avoid luxury tax scenario.
I should be on Lacob payroll...
