OT: Phelps admits to blazing the sticky icky

If you want to read the article on Phelps acknowledging photos that surfaced of him taking a bong rip at a party in South Carolina, you can google it. I'm curious about people's reactions. Personally, I feel sorry that the young man's life is so public, that his inevitable mistakes (we all make 'em) will be documented. I dont really have a problem that he blazes the ganj. I can see how this can hurt his influence on young people. But at the same time it has to open people's minds to the fact that the ganj may not be so bad after all these years of propoganda. Maybe we should just let those who enjoy it do so privately. Its no worse than alcohol, which can kill you through overdose or poor judgment.....

Thoughts?

He also got a DUI when he was 19, shortly after the 2004 Olympics. But now he's 23 not 19, guess he didn't learn from the first time. Something tells me this won't be the last time either.

I didn't really like him that much anyway.

I figured someone would rip him for this one. Sad day in america when young man can't take a bong rip at a house party without it being a top news story.

Give the kid a break, he owns enough gold to live off for years to come, and it just reaffirms my stance on the issue. The only thing wrong with sparking up a spliff is the fact that it's illegal.

Just legalize it and then it wouldn't be an issue. At least he's not snorting cocaine off of a stripper or slaming steriods, give the guy a break. President Obama and Phelps should become spokesmen for the legalization of marijuana initaitive.

Seriously...The two incidents are completely different...

DUI= endangering the lives of others.
Smoking Herb= air pollution?!? (even tho I love that sweet sweet smell)

No need to explain. We all know the reasons why the U.S. would be much better if we substituted alcohol with pot.

I wonder why Phelps' public relations didn't just say it was flavored tobacco?

Some bars now offer hookah's for smoking flavored tobacco. I've never tried it but i would assume that if you can smoke it out of a hookah then you can smoke it out of a bong since they are quite similar. Personally I feel that flavored tobacco is a joke. It's unhealthy and it can never equal the taste and scent of that fresh greenery we all love.

Doesn't he know Marijuana kills?!?!?! It only takes one time and you're dead! So many kids will OD on Marijuana because of this, just like Jimi Hendrix and Bon Scott and a whole bunch of others. Sad, just very sad.

Great article, and very true. The double standard argument is ridiculous when you think Josh Howard from the NBA can make a full blown admission without any provocation whatsoever, top draft picks can toke in the rooms of their NBA's ROOKIE TRAINING CAMP, and a myriad of other pot-related NBA mishaps and the fall-out is nothing like it was for Phelps....
