Would you trade Durant for Blake Griffin?

Post#1 » by OhioKingsFan » Tue Feb 3, 2009 9:19 pm

Just out of curiosity, if the Thunder do not win the Lottery, would you consider a trade BASED around Kevin Durant for Blake Griffin? What would you be willing to give up to get him? Does that fact that he's a hometown favorite mean anything?

Doesnt mean nothing if you have to give up talent like Durant.Durants going nowhere.I actually believe missing out on Griffin will be a blessing especially if we can land Harden instead.

There seem to be a lot of Thunder fans saying, "yeah, they're supposed to take Blake and go after him if they don't get him... but it'd almost be a blessing if they missed out on him." I am one of that group, but there are definitely a lot in it with me.

I would guess, if they truly felt that he was the guy they wanted to go after, they would offer:

A) their pick (somewhere between 2 and 6 if they miss out on the top spot but finish in the bottom 3) and one or two of their additional first rounders... maybe all 3 2009 picks for the top one?

B) Green and a mid-late 1st

C) Expiring contracts and 1 or 2 1sts for a bad contract

Just a few ideas, but ultimately I think it comes down to the fact that they won't give up Durant or Westbrook. Most likely option C is out because I can't see them sabotaging their cap position (both financially and for the roster's sake). I would be really upset if they gave up Green. So, since my opinion is what matters more than anything, A is about the only realistic option :)

Durant is a sure thing superstar, whereas Griffin has not proven anything yet in the NBA. It wouldn't make sense to do such a trade unless another superstar would come back in return, and even then I still probably wouldn't do it. Griffin's local appeal does very little to bridge the gap in player quality. No reason to get rid of Durant unless he pulls a Shawn Kemp and actually wants to leave.

Im actually hoping Rubio and Monroe declare this year we would have far better options then.Picking at number 4 would be much easier.

Durants doing in his second year what took Kobe 5. Over the last ten games, Durants number are slightly less impressive than James. He is shooting 43% from three point range. I dont think its even debateable.

Whats teh word on Rubios defense? And would he move to shooting guard? I really liek Westbrook where he is and it seems liek Durant and Green like it too.

Yeah, from the bit that I know, there's not really two ways about it. Rubio just IS a point guard. Now... there are definitely people who think that Westbrook should be a SG long-term. I am not one of them :)

Nope.

Some one if not two other players would have to go with him to match salaries and the Thunder don't really have many ugly contracts except Earl Watson and his is only for one more year.

As I mentioned this before it brings in a SF and a PF so Green really has no place to play. So they'd have to ship him off as well.

That trade makes no sense. And even if it was simply all of that for Kevin Durant is would still be a resounding no.

This is a star driven league and Durant if far and away the biggest, brightest, and youngest star in the league.

Dude, you are tripping. :)

I know Kevin's a hometown guy but that's way too much to offer.

Caron Butler, Blake Griffith (assuming we get the 1st pick) and Andray Blatche.

And in return I would want Durant and OKCs lottery pick. And that's without the fillers that would have to be included to make the salary's match up.

I doubt OKC would make this move so it's a moot point. :)

So you'd be willing to swap picks and trade Butler and Blatche for Durant??? Easy big spender.

Durant isn't going anywhere unless the guys name is LeBron or Dwight.

The young/butler/griffin deal had been proposed on this board before, and more or less, the answer was no. It's an interesting thought... but I don't think the Thunder would want to give up Durant at all and the Wizards wouldn't want to give up almost all of their assets for one guy...
