Rumor - Kampman for Peppers
Found this rumor on packerchatters main page.
Kampman
for
Peppers
Apparently Peppers has much more potential as a OLB than Kampman does.
I told you guys Peppers in going to be the 2nd coming of Reggie White.
In my mock offseason, Maybing would start opposite Peppers. Kampman really didnt fit in anyways.

Re: Rumor
I think it's one of those deals that makes too much sense for both teams. Kampman is more of a DE, and while it's a risk to bring Peppers aboard as he hasn't played standing up, he wants to be in a 3-4, we have the money to pay him and he's worked with someone on the staff.
What I wouldn't do is include a pick. If they want one they can look elsewhere.
I'll be surprised if this goes down. It's be nice, but I don't see it happening.

Re: Rumor
I have a hard time believing this will happen. I love peppers size and athleticism, but it's still no guarantee he can play OLB, even though he could probably transition to the position better than kampman. I have a feeling if we bring in any players via trade or free agency, they will most likely have some sort of experience in a 3-4

Re: Rumor
If Kampman gets traded it'll be for a pick(s) not a player, and the only way he's gonna be traded is if they have already lined someone up to take his spot wherever that may be in the starting 11. Peppers could be brought here via Free Agency but the Packers are not gonna trade for him (similar to the reasoning of passing on Moss)
The most likely Packer to get traded is Al Harris, and I'd say there's a good chance of that happening. Theres reason why a lot of people like Malcolm Jenkins to the Packers because of his speed and closing - in ability that could be used in zone coverage. Harris is expendable because he is not great in zone coverage. (Harris is also one of the guys who was very pro-Favre all of last off-season).

Re: Rumor
Comparing Peppers to White is ridiculous. Not only was White a more dominant player than Peppers, but he did so much for the Packers as a leader, locker room presence, and general promoter of team unity off the field that Peppers would never bring to the table. Actually it was Peppers' reserved, calm demeanor that caused many to question whether or not he even enjoyed playing football at all last season (2007, that is). There's nothing wrong with being a quiet guy, but comparing Peppers to White is way off base.

Completely agree, though some believe he could be like Woodson as a guy who needs a change of scenery to really be the player and teammate he fully could be. Woodson really was a quiet guy and still is but he's started doing the off season work with the team last year and has really stepped up as a leader.

Re: Rumor
I prefer Kamp > Peppers unless Aaron's totally unhappy or incapable playing OLB.
Harris won't bring more than a 4th. He's worth more to us but I am OK with dealing him & taking Jenkins. BUT i rather get OL or DL help more and trade down if need be for correctly slotted guy.

So Carolina would franchise Peppers I take it? No thanks. No OLB is worth $17 mill. Peppers is good, but he's not great. This is not the type of move TT will look to make. If Peppers had one year left on his contract I could see it happening, but he doesn't. No chance this happens.

Yeah, I think it's more than likely Harris will be gone. How about Harris and a 5th for Tony Gonzalez.

Think Al Harris to the Saints for a 3rd.

Yes, please. Add those two and we are already a much better team than we were last year. I can't effing wait until the draft. I hope Thompson doesn't screw it up.

No It would be a sign and trade, like 3yr/36mil.

That makes absolutely no sense. First, he can and will sign for more than that. Second, IF (and he won't, but I'll humor you for a second) he would sign a deal like that, why wouldn't the Packers (ignoring other teams) just sign him for that and then if they want to trade Kampman, trade him for something else (such as a draft pick)? If Peppers isn't going to be tagged by the Panthers, he's absolutely NOT going to sign with them so they can trade him somewhere else. This isn't the NBA.

No chance at all that Peppers would accept a contract like that, what possibly could make you think he would? Hell, Peppers will get over 30 million alone just in guaranteed money/signing bonus.
Jered Allen got a 6yr/74 million dollar deal from the Vikings with $31 million in guaranteed money and you think Peppers would take a 3yr/36 million dollar deal? Try doubling that.

Re: Rumor - Kampman for Peppers
why do you think it would be for 3 years? when guys of peppers caliber enter free-agency they are usually looking for more years for future financial security. peppers will want 6 to 7 years to basically guarantee he's making good money even if something like injury, decline in play, or lack of interest keep him from getting another blockbuster deal

The length of the contract he gets might be 6 or 7 years, but in the NFL, that's irrelevant. It's all about the signing bonus. More years doesn't equal financial security, more dollars guaranteed does.
