With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
With the Trade deadline 17 days away, which player(s) would you want to see on the Celtics?
I personally would want Joe Smith and Marbury. I love the fact that we are 40-9, but I would still want to upgrade our 9 man rotation. Bonzi Wells is also available now and he can also help at the SF position since it doesn't look like Bill Walker is going to see any significant minutes this year.

Any interest in Kapono?
Raps accept a trade for expirings or mixed expirings + guys with 1 year remaining on deal.. especially if the deal doesnt put us in lux tax area
Kapono's value max's after All-Star Weekend

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
I think Joe Smith could help some but I feel like we need a real low post defender who can score, who doesn't right?
I really like the positives Marbs could bring the bench but I also think that he is a headcase so I don't know that is it is worth it.
No to Bonzi he is really crazy.

I still think Orlando will snag Joe Smith. I wouldn't mind Tim Thomas. He's shooting 41% from 3. Also, add Marbury. This team needs scoring off the bench.

Why do you think ORL would snag Joe Smith? I think they have already made it pretty clear they aren't trading for him nor do they have the available assets. Beyond that what does he add to their team? Now they obviously need a pg but there real issue is a lack of solid perimeter defender and they could use a slasher.
I am a Tim Thomas fan I just wonder if Doc could get him to play defense for a couple of months.

Tim Thomas was my favorite player when he was at Villanova.

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
Charlie Villanueva is rumored to be on the block as Milwaukee is unsure they will be able to resign him in the off-season anyways, plenty of scenario's in the trade checker work but we'd probably have to give up a pick also as he has been playing out of his mind of late. He's a good scorer (out to 3 point range) and rebounder and immediately would become this teams 6th man, but the way he has been playing he'll probably command more than we can offer in the off-season, he'd probably be an expensive rental. If we could get it done and hang on to him he'd really improve our front court depth.

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
The problem with Villanueva is that he's almost certain to be a costly rental (having to trade prospects and picks for him with little chance of resigning him at a reasonable salary). And given that he'd be brought in mid-season he would have a very short period to learn the defensive schemes of the Celtics. Charlie isn't quite known as a defensive wiz at this point and it's hardly reasonable to think that he could perform well enough defensively for the Celtics in order to be considered as a trustworthy rotation option for Doc and Tibs. So a big fat no on trading for Charlie V.
In terms of the Smith vs. Marbury question I think I'd have to go with Marbury. With Marbury playing along side the court bench (House, TA, Powe, Scal, Davis) and the occasional starter I think that Doc could achieve a great mix of defense, scoring, spacing and toughness within the second unit. For instance a pairing of Marbury, House, Pierce, Scal, and Davis would be an excellent floor spacing unit. While a group like Marbury, Allen, Allen, Powe and Davis would be a really solid mix of shooters and inside scorers. Marbury and House would be a seemingly solid scoring backup backcourt while Davis, Powe, and Scals could be used situationally to maximise the strengths, while negating the weaknesses, of each of these players. Those three frontcourt players become a nice enough group to complement KG and Perk, once the added offensive impact of Marbury is factored in IMO. Thus, negating the pressing need for a big such as Joe Smith or PJ Brown. (Though it wouldn't hurt to get both). The last important point is that Marbury would essentially cost the Celtics nothing at all in terms of trade.

i think the recent injuries to Bynum and Nelson might be troublesome to us adding players we may want. L.A. is gonna be shopping for a big maybe thats Joe Smith. If Marbury is ever bought out Orlando could offer him a starting job now that Nelson is possibly out for the year. Not to mention the tax benefits will be better in Florida.

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
For bigmen, Rasho Nesterovic is tops on my list. Scal/POB/Giddens would work, but I'm unsure why Indy does that. Maybe they're really high on JR. Best case scenario, Rasho gets bought out after the deadline.
I'm down for Joe Smith too, but I'm actually more concerned with adding a SF than a big man. This is partially because I'd like to see PP rested a bit down the stretch. He looked great first week or two of the season from a physical standpoint, I'd love to see him looking like that in the playoffs. Baby/Powe are serviceable if we have to rely on them.
Renaldo Balkman is back to getting very little PT in Denver. Walter Hermann has gotta be cheap. Tim Thomas is an interesting possibility - his 41% from long range is likely partially due to D'Antoni but he's a pretty serviceable SF/PF. And I wouldn't mind finding out how high or low Indy is on Brandon Rush.
Between Marbury and Tinsley and whoever else they should get bought out we don't need to trade for them and therefore the deadline is besides the point.

Another small forward that may be able to be had cheap would be Jared Dudley, he played well at times when he was with Charlotte but has been barely seeing the floor with Phoenix. He's 6'7 and plays hard (from what I've seen). Plus, he's a BC guy
.
Edit: NM, he's trade restricted, not sure when that runs out.

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
IF MARBURY can get bought out on say, Friday February 13,
clear waivers on Tuesay the 17th at 5PM,
sign with the Celtics,
then by Thursdays trade deadline on the 19th the Celtics could:
Trade for Indiana's Rasho Nesterovic (expiring $8.4 Million),
with $4.2 million owed March thru June.
Now, the Celtics could"
send Tony Allen to OKC for San Antonio's 2009 First Round Pick (#25, say)
and re-route the 2009 #25 pick to Indiana
send Glen Davis to Dallas for say $250,000 cash,
and re-route the $250,000 to Indiana
send Brian Scalabrine to Indiana
send Gabe Pruitt anywhere with a trade exception (16 teams)
for a 2009 2nd Round Pick, which the Celtics keep
So, the Celtics get Rasho Nesterovic to play 20 to 22 minutes of center behind Perk,
and get a 2009 2nd Round Pick higher than their #60 pick,
while giving up Scal, Tony, Davis and Pruitt.
Indiana gets San Antonio's 2009 First Round Pick from OKC, Scal and $250,000 cash.
Indiana will owe Brian Scalabrine $1.6 Million this year, $3.4 Million next year,
but they don't pay Nesterovic his remaining $4.2 Million,
and they still have that First Round Pick and the Dallas $250K.

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
Dudley's trade restriction expires on the 2/10 and he could still be dealt in a one for one trade though I don't think he is what we need.
To me Charlie V makes a ton of sense. There is reason to be concerned about the defense, no doubt about it but he brings so many other things the team needs that I think you have to look at it. He is also a huge talent upgrade.
Obviously MIL would like more for him but if the deadline is coming and they are somewhat ready to move on from Charlie then Boston could send TA and Leon Powe and '11 1st round pick (we may have to include Cassell) to MIL for Charlie V.
He is expensive, his QO is like 4.2 mil, so you have to really want him to go for it, he is going to need like a 3 year 24 mil contract, but outside of the allergy to defense he really seems like an AInge type of player and hopefully KG could help him with his allergy.

Charlie V have a huge talent can play SF and PF. We need him for big line -up
Scal and POB for Charlie V is good for me.

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
I went after Nesterovic because I'm looking for a true low post defender/scorer.
Leaves Garnett at PF.
Charlie Villanueva's pre-draft measurement is 6' 9" without shoes.
Joe Smith's pre-draft measurement is 6' 9.5" without shoes.
Rasho Nesterovic is close to 7 feet.

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
But Villeanueva is an upgrade to Davis.
If Villaneuva can play center.
Meaning he has to bang with the Bigs on the block.
If you play Villaneuva at PF, it means KG at C, which he hates,
or Davis still at C, which undesirable in the long run, especially against
the Lakers, Cavs and San Antonio when at full strength.
That Glen Davis game against San Antonio last year was laughable in that
TIm Duncan got whatever shots he wanted, that he normally makes,
but that day was missing, and everyone said Davis played good D
when Timmy was just missing shots that he normally makes.

Orlando needs a big man off the bench and has a late #1 to give up. Of course, their needs just changed with the injury to Nelson tho.

No chance at getting anything significant. We won't touch the rotation meaning Glenn Davis and TA aren't going to be on the move.
Our assets are Giddens, Walker, Pruitt, Patrick O'Bryant and I would say Powe.
That could land us a declining role player, but not much more. I would try and
clear some roster space and get a waived vet. Celts need length an another backcourt guard.
Smith and Marbury on boyouts in place of Obryant and Pruitt would be perfect.
I would pawn Powe off for a second round pick if possible.

Re: With the Trade deadline approaching, who would you want
Patrick O'Bryant is likely to be a very fine center in about 3 years time (age 25).
And Leon is worth a heck of a lot more than a second round pick
since he is a Restricted Free Agent.
