Interest in Maggette?

Post#1 » by partnerfusion » Wed Feb 4, 2009 11:27 pm

Sounds like things are getting worse between Crawford and Maggette in Golden State. As Jazz fans what would you think of something like this:

Korver, Miles

For

Maggette

Yeah tons of interest in him that last 5 years. This year is a different story.

I don't think that we would be interested in that contract.

Older + more expensive = no thanks. Who is "Hughes" in Golden State?

We are only interested in that contract if we move AK to get him. Thats is very unlikely given the most likely package coming from Golden State would fall a couple minute short of making the deal, unless they're so enamored with Andrei that they would part with Wright and Turiaf and take back Mo Almond and Fes. I just dont see us being good trade partners.

In all honesty I dont think Maggette brings much other than scoring. Rather just keep Boozer as the offensive minded guy on the team, at least he rebounds.

No real interest in Maggette these days.

I guess it all depends on what it would take to get him, but that new contract doesn't help the situation.

I think that I can agree with that.

If you could get him for CJ and Korver I think it's a definite upgrade. On the other hand, Maggette's contract will be ugly in a couple more years.

How does it get ugly? It increases by 700k each season, he tops out at 10.9. Considering some of the overpaid players in the league, a guy that is a consistent 17-20 ppg scorer in the league, thats a pretty fair deal. Secondly I wouldnt trade CJ for him, he might suck right now, but we decided to keep and develop him and thats what we will do. Finally I dont see GSW trading Maggette for a 35% 3pt shooter and CJ.

Right - I realize it doesn't go up by much - I was referring to the fact that it's a long contract (5 years?) and as he gets older it might be tougher to justify if his game / health starts declining - similar to the Antonio Daniels situation...

That being said I would still be very tempted if GS would do it for Miles/Korver - I don't see Miles ever reaching the level of Maggette.

We'll give you Okur, the New York pick and rights to swap second round picks. It's the only realistic trade.

I like Maggette because of his ability to draw fouls. The Jazz need to get opposing teams in foul trouble earlier and get to the line more. That alone is a significant reason to look at Maggette. However, if I wanted to commit that much money to a wing for a number of years, I would be getting hold of Gerald Wallace. I think Wallace is a wonderful player ... and even a very good defender. Something could be worked out with Charlotte, I am sure, but it would require moving Kirilenko.

I think you guys will be better off without Maggette, Utah is one the best teams in team play. Maggette needs the ball in his to be effective. He will ruin your team chemistry.

Ya i agree.

Sure he's effective now, but how would he be in our system?

I'd love Wallace, but lets be realistic...

The part of me that's a warriors fan really wants this to happen, the part of me that's a jazz fan really hopes this doesn't happen.

This is something that that I really like about him. He is usually one of the top 5 FTA in the league each year. He isn't afraid to take it to the rim. Jazz like to lay back and turn into jump shooters.

I would mind going after Wallace, either.
