Nash considers future in Phoenix

--- OK, I'm Nash's boyfirend (actually, he's *my* boyfriend but why quibble) so maybe I'm inclined to take his side. I don't think he's saying anything here that isn't pretty much common knowledge and I don't see any of it as taking shots at management. Pretty plain-spoken though, regarding the financial end of the team and the first time I've seen anyone address the effect of the players we've dealt off for money reasons being a factor in the current situation

Maryvale will wet her knickers over this one ...

I love Nash, but how much is he going to left at age 36? Who's going to give him a long-term deal?
How many years would he be able to be a capable starter, let alone a capable starter on a championship-contending team?

Nash is my all-time favorite player, but even I wouldn't pursue him very heavily if I were a GM in summer 2010.

His best shot might be to sign short-term deals with championship-contending teams.At that point, I'm sure it will be the ring not the money that drives him. And while teams would be hesitant to give him a long term deal, it would be an entirely different story with one-year deals. I think that's what John Stockton did towards the end of his career, and his game never really fell off too much, nor did the Jazz get stuck with a white elephant of a contract.

How they deal with Nash could really affect whether other FAs even consider Phoenix. He's given everything for this team, so lowballing him/leaving him out to dry could and would be a PR nightmare

They need to at least offer him something reasonable, and if NY can top it, then a S&T is the backup option

I look at it this way -- and bear in mind, this is coming from someone who views Steve Nash as a god:

His skills are already starting to diminish a little bit. How good is he going to be at 36? 37? and so on. If you're a GM, and he's looking for a long-term deal in 2010, why would you want to sign him long-term?

What skills, jazzy_jeff? His shot isn't failing, nor is his playmaking.

So you can't be talking about anything else but scoring volume, which is obviously going to fall off with Shaq and J-Rich on the team...

I'm glad Nash finally opened his mouth and just lambasted Sarver, did you notice that? That whole bit about fiscal responsibility and about players who could have been retained for cheap? That was a STAB at crappy ownership...

He's talking about missing all the role players we traded away (Marion, Boris, Raja, KT) for offensive minded players (Shaq and JRich).

Shaq at least rebounds well, blocks a few shots and is a strong post presence, a big body guys have to get around in the key if they want to score.

BaddaBing.... Sports fan my rearend...Sarver is a beancounter through and through. There is no way Nash signs with these assclowns. problem is, they know it and will try to come off to the public like they are 'honoring' Nash's request to move on, being the good guys they are.

I was thinking... you know when Nash said that the teams chances of rebuilding and blowing up was 50-50, do you think maybe he wants the team to blow up and just trade away?

If the Suns started a fire sale today they'd be able to get valuable future assests. It'd be exciting for the Suns to look toward a new future. And it'd shake up the whole league and potentially make some teams into contenders.
