OT- IU appreciation thread

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Thu Feb 5, 2009 7:03 pm

Not sure how many people on here are also fans of the Hoosiers, but i thought their win last night was really nice. It was only their 6th win of the season and their first in Big Ten conference play. It also snapped a 11-game losing streak. But i thought Devan Dumas played out of his mind. Shot 8-9 from the floor, like 5-5 from 3, including a late 3-pointer with 2 minutes left when Iowa was on a huge run and only down by 3. Dumas finished with 27 points, a career high for the junior college transferee. I also thought Nick Williams played a very good game as did Malik Story. Tom Crean is a great coach IMO and this is a very young team he has, but i think he's doing all that he can. This team has a tough time closing out games, they keep it close in most Big Ten games but struggle in last 5-7 minutes but last night they finished strong, made clutch shots and played great defense. I salute the IU basketball team for a feel-good victory. It could be the last of the season but many experts said they wouldn't win one conference game.

Anyways, just wanted to get that off my chest. lol

Great post.

Crean is a great coach. With a top ten recruiting class coming in, the Hoosiers will be back on top in 2 years or so.

There is a good feeling around campus today.

I think coach Crean is going to put Indiana Basketball back on the map. He has some real good recruits coming in this summer who should give Indiana instant credibility. I think the 2010 class could be minimal but i think next years guys would stay so as long as they can land Barnes or Davis, 2 of the top 5 SF in the recruiting class, 2010 will be successful. However, i think Crean is looking at 2011 for the breakout class, which could include Marques Teague, arguably the best recruit in the class of 2011 from Pike High School, and one of the top PF in the class Marshall Plumlee (also UNC and Duke looking at).

Was at the game with my son... and had a great time... Great to see IU get that first Big 10 win and hopefully will be able to build on it... What was most impressive IMO, was how we were able to overcome Pritchard in foul trouble early, and his limited contributions...

This year, absolutely we wish we were as good as UNC. Hell, we wish we were as good as Northwestern.

There were a couple games where I think they literally could've gotten the 10 best players out of the 20,000 or whatever guys and played a better game (only beating Chaminade by 2-this isn't 1980 or whenever, losing by 13 to Northeastern, losing to Lipscomb...). Anyways, lately they've been improving, and I think in 2 years they should have a good team with Crean in there. Their games lately have been competitive since Michigan (except at Illinois and Ohio St.). I don't see them getting more than 1 win this year, though. The bigger surprise is Notre Dame. They have a great squad, but have 9 losses? Their next 2 games are at UCLA and against #7 Louisville, too. The Big East is tough, and the Irish aren't getting it done. I guess Butler has the best team in Indiana (arguably; could go with the Boilers). When you see their players they look like a high school team, but when they make their 3s they're unbeatable. I'd like to see them make another run in the tournament.

Great topic. Glad to see em finally get their 1st big10 win. They've been playn hard and were finally able to finish one off. I feel pretty confident in Crean, hes gonna do great things in B-town.
