Love could avg 10/10 if...
Kevin Love could end up averaging a double double if he averages 11 points and 12 rebounds over the remaining 34 games. Might be tough but you never know with his increased minutes.
Has there been another rookie who has done this, if so, how many minutes did they play per game?
*EDIT* 44 players (according to NBA.com/statistics) have avg > 10 / 10 in their career. Of the "17 modern players who have only Duncan, O'Neal, Olajuwon, Oakley, Bird, Abdul-Jabar, Robinson and Chamberlain did so in their rookie year. Stodmaire, Odom, Ewing, Malone, Marion, B. Wallace, Garnett, Boozer and Barkley did not.
All of these guys averaged more minutes than Love does with the exception of Ben Wallace @ 5.8 mpg. The two with the closest minutes arer Shawn Marion 24.7 min 10.2 pts and 6.5 rpg and Carlos Boozer 25.3 min 10.0 pts and 7.5 rpg.
Other notable front court players who did avg 10/10 in their rookie season but not for their career Brand, Mourning and Coleman. Others who did not avg that in their rookie season or for their career include Yao Ming, McHale, Horace Grant, Shawn Kemp, Lambeer, Parish and Camby. Only McHale, Grant and Parish played less minutes than Love does.
With all of this being said, if Love stays healthy and continues to improve he could easily average 16 / 12 for his career.

There's been alot of rookies that have averaged double doubles. Without looking, I'd assume Shaq, David Robinson, and Tim Duncan all did it.

He neccesarily did not do it, but Al Horford last year averaged 10.+ and 9.7 rbg. I did not check on the minutes though.

Re: Love could avg 10/10 if...
I would be curious what's the fewest number of minutes a rookie has played and averaged a double/double? I'd also like to see what's the fewest number of minutes ANY NBA player has played and averaged a double/double?
Then I would like a head-to-head-to-head donut eating contest of those players versus Kevin Love, then the top two donut eaters play one-on-one up to 11. Scoring is by 1's and 2's, have to take the ball back behind the three point line, even on an air ball, make it-take it after 3, call your own fouls.
Winner gets to DRIVE the "NBA on ESPN" bus.

You sound like that crazy mom that won't let her kid play football because he might get hurt, and then dad has to sign him up for the "chess team" so he can sneak him off to football practice everyday.

I was at that game and couldn't figure it out either. Gomes was playing the 4 and he was 1-10 * 3 rebounds and Foye was 4-19. They must have heard us repeatedly yelling to put Mike @ the point - they did it and he started hitting his 3's. They could've had him run the point with chucker McCants at the SG leaving Gomes in at the 3 with Love @ 4 or if they leave Foye in they sit Gomes down with Mike @ 3. We needed rebounding.
I think McHale thinks his lineup was going to play like Nike and "just do it" and they didn't.

I think it would require minutes in the low 30's at least. That's not going to happen.

The rebounds might be hard to get. I'm pretty sure he will break the 10 ppg by the end of February.
Taking my number crunching and making it into a thread? j/k
Double Double or not I want to see Love to just keep progressing at his current pace. I want to see more of his range, he has a great jump shot for a big guy. He also need to limit the fouls a little. Maybe next year the refs will give him some respect can get some calls in his favor too!

As long as he averages between10/8 to 12/10 for the year ill be very happy with Love

I love algrebra.
Anyway, I think that Kevin Love has a legitimate shot. I'm not concerned with the points. Its not hard for a player to score 10 points in a game, and I would guess there's probably 80 or so players doing it right now. Very few players make it into the NBA if they can't score, and Love certainly is certainly capable of passing that low bar.
Its averaging 10 RB's that is a difficult accomplishment, and right now, only eight guys have met that goal. Love is 15th in RPG, but its possible he can get there because of his rebounding rate. He's only averaged 23 mpg, while everyone above him is 31-38. I think we can clearly expect more minutes for Lovethe rest of the season, as we develop our youth. Another way to look at the rebounding race is that he's played 48 games, so he would obviously need 480 rebounds to be on pace. He's at 415, so he needs to make up 65 rebounds over 10 per game, in his last 32 games tough, but not impossible.
Also, if you examine his distribution of rebounds/game, there's reason to not give up hope there as well. It is very difficult to consistently get 10 rebounds/game, which is why people like to count the number of double-doubles a guy gets. As a rookie, that consistency would be even harder for Love. However, he's not getting 10 or 11 on his good days .. he's getting 14 or 15. Days like that give him a lot more flexibility. For example, if he has two bad (?!) 7 RB games, he's very capable of coming out with a 16 RB game to erase the deficit. When we're talking about averages, he can overcome consistency with a number of extreme values.
Here's where he is right now:
13.9 Dwight Howard
13.0 Marcus Camby
11.8 Andris Biedrins
11.7 David Lee
11.4 Troy Murphy
10.7 Al Jefferson
10.5 Emeka Okafor
10.4 Tim Duncan
9.5 Yao Ming
9.5 Chris Bosh
9.4 Paul Milsap
9.2 Pau Gasol
9.1 Antawn Jamison
9.0 Kevin Garnett
8.7 Kevin Love
