Game #50 Lakers (41-9) 101 @ Cavaliers (39-10) 91

Post#1 » by miggs » Fri Feb 6, 2009 6:14 am

Fresh off the recent upset in Boston, the Lakers look to continue their dominant streak against King James and the Cleveland Cavaliers who are proud owners of a 23-0 Home Record. However, with the Lakers ending the hot Celtics' 12-game winning streak they look to Lamar Odom's enlightment and the last play from Thursday night's win to find the greatness to bring down the Cavaliers and go 6-0 in this decisive road trip.

Not that its a big deal or anything. Sasha Pavlovic will be starting for the Cavs, not Wally Szczerbiak. He missed the last game because of the flu. Should be a great game.

When the Lakers started this road trip, I fully expected them to go no better than 4-2. They are currently 5-0. Cleveland is the last stop. Nobody has won in Cleveland this season except the Cavs.

But.

The Lakers stopped Boston's 19-game overall winning streak.

What's a home winning streak compared to that? If anyone can spoil Cleveland's perfect home record, it's the Lakers.

Go Lakers.

Yep! i also thought they'd do a 4-2 but no better than 5-1, now they're 5-0 and are definitely amped up enough to end Cleveland's streak, which i pray they do! it'd be such an amazing road trip

Gonna be tough as ****. But I'm seeing a close game again. Our confidence is at an all time high this season. We just gotta limit our turnovers and don't let them get so many offensive boards (IE BIG Z AND SIDE SHOW BOB).

X FACTOR: Lamar step it up again and again.

Onto the game:

We have to rebound and LIMIT their rebounds big time
Limit Lebron to jumpers
Don't let Wally-world go around the world with his 3's
Attack the basket and get their bigs in foul trouble while don't get our bigs in foul trouble

And watch out for that Big Z 3's and long jumpers

Set the tone early by maintaining a lead after the 1st quarter.

And more importantly don't let Le---be-----james get in the paint

One of two things is going to happen:

- The Lakers are going to realize that the LeBron at the 4 matchup is advantageous to the Lakers (Lamar is one of our better players to thrown at LeBron).
- The Cavaliers will keep the LeBron at the 3 matchup and we will have to use Kobe extensively against LeBron with a double-team sagging carefully off of Ben Wallace and Varejao.
- Pau will try to keep Ilgauskas under control and match or better him on the other end.

If and when the Cavaliers go small and bring in say Wally at the 3 (figuring Luke will do nothing to him) and Pavlovic at the 2, the Lakers should try to push the ball on the floor with Farmar and Ariza coming in with Odom-Kobe-Ariza switching off of LeBron (all are decent guys to throw at him) with support (in the situation where he has help at the 4 you must instruct Lamar to allow him to shoot the deep mid-range and further with occasional help from the nearest guy. The rotations must be crisp though to not get burnt by the three point shot.

I think that the Cavaliers will likely go with LeBron at the 3 though and for that reason the Lakers must sag off of Ben Wallace carefully with Lamar to provide the inside presence you need.

On the other end, isolate Lamar and Gasol on the pick and roll. They are far more athletic than their counterparts and especially if Lamar is set to drive against Ilgauskas with Wallace away from the paint you stand a good shot of forcing the issue. LeBron may come over but by that time Kobe should be free to do something. Fisher must pressure Mo Williams all game long. When Delonte West is on him Kobe must attack him. If possible the Lakers can spread the floor nicely with Sasha against Delonte West.

One of the greatest faults of the Cavalier offense is that like our team they completely lack players who can penetrate. Delonte West can shoot but he's not earth-shattering shooter wrap around moving screen shooter like Ray Allen. He can't penetrate like Pierce and they have no PF that can do so. Instead they play LeBron as their PF as we do with Lamar. They encounter much of the same problems with a quick reaction zone like Boston as we do. When they play Varejao and Wallace at C it's critical to keep them off of the boards for put-backs.

Odom is the s**t. For all the talk about Odom being a bonehead (which he is), one thing you can never call him is a punk who backs down. That title has has been trademarked by none other than KG.

I gotta agree semi................that's why we have that love-hate thing with LO. And KG is a sissyfied punk it's a big difference. Equal to how some guys in the rap game are just "studio gangstas".

Gonna be a tough game no doubt, hopefully if the Lakers manage to keep LeBron out the paint we should be good. Go Lakers!
