Where was Trevor at the end?

Post#1 » by fareweatherfan » Sat Feb 7, 2009 12:35 am

I only had one eye on the game last night so I couldnt follow it as closely as I would have liked to.

Why was Trevor not in the game instead of Luke at the end of the fourth and in OT?

I saw him take a hard hit on his charge attempt, did he get hurt? Just a coaching decision? Anyone know?

He's probably still a bit off from that concussion. Plus, he'd had a pretty lame game up to that point.

because trevor was pretty much invisible except for those plays where he had an and 1 but canned the FT and then stole the ball and forced a loose ball foul

phil knew he was playing right into the celtics hands by having both lamar and trevor out there with their inconsistent jumpers

luke's no sharpshooter either but at least he moves the ball and also did a decent job on pierce towards the end of the 4th/OT

phil just made a judgement call

Thanks for the responses. I figured it was a coaching decision. Now that you mention it, I recall Trevor making some uncharacteristic plays on offense (forcing the issue).

But still, it was a gutsy call on Phil's part to leave Luke on Pierce. I also think partly Phil didn't want to tip his hat too much on how he plans to play Pierce (with Trevor) should we meet in the finals.

Trevor isn't a good individual defensive player, but a good help defender. U seen how Pierce abuse him.

Luke is a better individual defender and did a better job on Pierce, but sucks when it comes to talent.

It isn't because Trevor isn't a good man to man defender, or that Luke is better at it (because he's not, at all), but Pierce just overpowers guys like Trevor. Luke has the size and strength to at least bother Pierce a bit.

I think Laker fans need to stop telling Boston fans on their forum to stop whining about calls because some day it will come back to bite us in the arse, just like it is biting Boston fans now when they told us to stfu about our ref whining of game 2 in the finals.

I fully agree. It reminds me that I have admiration for the Spur's fans and the way they have dealt with officiating as a whole. Better to suck it up regardless of how heinous the call or homerific the fan.

You gotta be outta your mind if you think Luke is a better defender than Trevor. You don't lead the team in steals by being a good "help" defender, that's done by being a solid man on man defender. What season have you been watching ?

This is sure to cause much laughter on this thread. Luke a good defender please

It's very rare when Luke Walton has equal foot speed as the guy he is guarding.

Watching Paula Pierce play is like watching Turtles run.

It's true as good as Ariza is at playing the passing lanes he's just a horrendous on the ball defender. Did you guys not watch how Pierce abused him every time Ariza was guarding him? Ariza just has some of the worst habits on defense. There was a reason Phil kept pulling Ariza.

At the end of the game though, I agree that we probably should've had Ariza in there. Luke was on Rondo at the end of the game with Kobe on Pierce. I definitely think Ariza would've excelled in that position like he did against the Spurs. Ariza would've been a much better "free safety" than Luke, but that match-up really didn't matter at the end of the game.

Luke is a good defender and he gets hated on a lot... But Ariza is easily better

as big as the athletic disparity is between Walton and Ariza, I think Luke Walton holds his own pretty well as a 1 on 1 defender. Ariza has the potential to be a great defender, but he just gambles a lot. Some one should tell him to just play good and fundamentally sound man to man defense, he just picks up too many cheap fouls, and also fouls a lot on jumpshots

I agree. and I hate how much Luke gets hated on... He plays solid defense, he moves the ball, sets up his teammates, isnt high maintenance and doesnt require a lot of shots... People act like he's Smush/Kwame material, but he's very solid and >>>>>> Vlad Rad
