Bench woes
Perkins out, the bench is reborn. The combo of Pruitt (who didn't shoot well at all) and House meant that Eddie was shooting the lights out on a regular basis and the clock wasn't down to 12 seconds when the play began.
This bench as constructed cannot play without a pg. Eddie is horrid at 1, a nonfactor on offense, no penetration ability and a defensive liability. I don't blame the collapse of the bench on Tony's return, I blame it on Gabe's benching. (and the disappearance of Leon's shot.)
Eddie House at 2 with a pg that can get him the ball.

Re: Bench woes
This team needs length desperately. It showed when Garnett fouled out against the Lakers. You cannot replace a 7 footer with a guy who is barely 6'8" Not sure who is out there that we can obtain, but it someone is needed.

Well its Docs fault we all know that...
Even PRUITT/HOUSE/ALLEN is a lot better than HOUSE/ALLEN/PIERCE
As long as House is at SG and Allen at SF(no handling the ball, just penetrating) we will be ok...but as long Allen is around Doc will play him
The best way to go would be with
RONDO/HOUSE/ALLEN

Re: Bench woes
We need a guard and a big who is not a one dimensional. Rondo and Powe are one dimensional players and that they can't shoot so its easier for the opponents to defend them. As far as a coach that is smart, well we are stuck with someone who is not. There is no hope there, but a hope for a guard/big at least.
Just think for a second guys. Imagine if we have Joe Smith and Malbury; games would be a lot easier for our big three.
If we don't bring anyone this year, I can guarantee you guys a 2nd round exit this year...bookmark it.

Re: Bench woes
We're coming off a championship year, along with LA and Cleveland we're right there at the top of the league about 3/5 through the season and have just as good of a chance at a ring as either of those teams.... and yet people are still dumb enough to think Doc's a bad coach. I question some of Doc's moves at times but that doesn't mean he is a bad coach, I'm sure when Red was coaching there were fans that second guessed what he did at times too. No coach is going to make the right move everytime, and to make it even more confusing sometime's the "right" move doesn't work out and the "wrong" move does. In the end wins and banners are the earmark of a good coach and since Doc has had some talent to work with we've had both.
back to the OP we're doing pretty damned good with what we've got but it is readily apparent that there is plenty of room for improvement when it comes to the bench. I've got to agree with canman, length is got to be priority, we're undersized at the 3 and 5 pretty badly and it can be a real problem depending on the match-up (Pau taking easy jumpers over BBD comes to mind).

Re: Bench woes
Hey, I'm not saying that Doc is a bad coach, it may be to our advantage that Eddie's not scoring with the 2nd unit, he did great with the 1st at the end of the knicks game. It's just that the 2nd unit needs a pg (and a big)

You are right, he were playing a lot better with Pruitt in there. House was playing well at the 2 spot. Then TA came back and Pruitt sat again. That is why I woudn't mind if we traded TA. Also, we are back to the Powe and Davis combo off the bench. That combo sucks ass. The rest for that is Scalabrine is hurt.

Absolutely...add to the fact Davis can't jump and he plays shorter than 6'8"...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Re: Bench woes
At this point why not try Walker, Giddens and/or PO. The first 2 cannot be any worse than TA whom every team knows how to defend now. On the second team PO would at least provide someone who can make the defenses have to respect the low post - he can score. PO is not a center but should be an excellent backup to KG.
Also, Doc knows and has stated so that Eddie is much better as a 2 than a 1. Who knows why he's still using him as a point.
Hopefully, we will see some bench changes after the allstar break as this has been Doc's history; not playing rookies until later in the season.

Please. Those two rookies can be a lot worse than TA, especially since TA is playing pretty well. Giddens and Walker will not solve the point guard problem any more than TA could.

Re: Bench woes
The team was a -9 with Gabe in there instead of Tony in Jan. Going into yesterday the team was +11 with Tony in the lineup, and then we went for a -15 yesterday alone.
So for the most part you are fooling yourselves we were not better with Gabe in there and before yesterday we were a lot better with Tony in there, then yesterday happened which is most likely what is forming opinions, but he at least put in 11 points it was the other 3 clowns who did nothing.
Eddie had his best month in Jan. playing with Pruitt, of course that was until Tony came back and he has been through the roof in Feb. More about Eddie than Gabe and Tony.

Re: Bench woes
TA being the first guard off the bench means no championship 18 for the Celtics. Pretty simple.
Unfortunately I think the Celtics are stuck with this proposition unless Danny Ainge can do something in the next 10 days.
